They don't have a fail safe mechanism that will shut down the machine if it gets higher resistance. The machine will eat through the gears if that happens. And after a whole lot of prep and effort and freezing for a day, all it does churn for 2 mins; and even that it doesn't do well.
The joke at my home when I used it for the first time was that this was the single worst invention in the history of humanity and humans are regressing at an alarming pace.
