I have this and the OG thermapen. Not only is this better, but it's nearly a tenth the price of a thermapen.

When the backlight my old Thermapen Mk4 stopped working, Thermoworks offered to have a look at it for like $40 plus shipping but didn't promise they could fix it (running out of replacement parts). Yeah, right! So out of frustration I went ahead and bought this one for $7. I compared it to my newer Thermapen One and both read exactly the same temperature. The Thermapen One was a tick faster and I like the ergonomics better, but for $7 this will be my new everyday thermometer. If this breaks, I'm not out $80+ but just get a new one for $7. From now on, my Thermapens will only come out on special occasions and to check if the temperature reading of this one is still spot on.

Just got mine yesterday and tried it out today. It is very fast and very accurate. I've used the thermopens before and this is just as good, fast, and accurate. I also confirmed accuracy with another thermometer I have and it's spot on. Really happy with this purchase.

You are correct...when registered, this ThermoMaven thermometer has a lifetime warranty. Other ThermoMaven devices like their wireless probe thermometers have a one year warranty that increases to 1.5 years when registered.

NOT VERY FAST.. in my testing with the device, for cold and heat, it takes nearly 45 seconds to actually get the ACTUAL temp reading.. the thermapen takes 2-3 seconds at most. So comparatively it's nowhere near as fast as the thermapen (yes, I know more $$ device, I paid $50 for it) but for cooking and my use case (needing to test shower water temp accurately) waiting 45 seconds to get to a real temp reading is not even work $7.

I happened across this deal the last time it was on SD and ordered one as a backup. I do have the Thermoworks Thermopen as well. I can tell you with certainty that this particular unit works great as well. For the price, it is a no-brainer as far as purchasing one.

I have this thermometer and when I did multiple temp checks of water in a cup, it read the temp each time in less than a second...regardless of what temperature the water in the cup was...cool, warm or hot. For yours to take so much longer to read the temp would seem to indicate there's something wrong with the one you have...and you should have ThermoMaven replace it...it has a lifetime warranty.
