Why would they combine these two? I'm not a chef or anything like that of course, maybe it's just a good combo

Unfortunately, that's why sunflower oil is the second ingredient in this item. I'd prefer no added oil and have to deal w/the powder solidifying…

I looked up the nutritional info on McCormick's site and they say "This product has no significant nutritional value", so I assume there's not much oil used.

When I use most any spice I routinely give the container a good shake before dispensing. This helps keep clumping to a minimum and the product ingredients uniform (they can settle out over time).

I cut potatoes in squares, add this seasoning and some olive oil toss and bake or air fry, delicious combination

I am not surprised by the 'no nutritional value' thing as a serving size is so small. However, that said, there IS oil in the product, and according to the ingredient list, more oil is in it than parsley, actually. Is it a big deal? Probably not. But I prefer spices without added ingredients in any event. Such as this: Organic Garlic Powder | 8 oz (226g) | USDA Organics and Non-GMO Verified Project Approved | Product of India | 100% Raw and Natural | Resealable Kraft Bag by SHOPOSR https://a.co/d/0gzy5lBI

What is "California style". The name spams it but this stuff is not from California.
