Community Reviews

This refurbished Brother laser multifunction printer stands out as a compact black and white workhorse that prints reliably from a PC or phone and can be cheap to run with the right toner. Ethernet support is a major plus for avoiding Wi Fi dropouts, and the older Brother units are described as tanks. The main caution is firmware, since updates may block third party cartridges or make knockoff toner harder to recognize, though some setups still work with inexpensive toner after updates. A practical pick if wired networking and toner compatibility matter.

If the firmware is updated, you have to use their massively overpriced cartridges. Don't know if there's a way to check though.

I have two of these purchased years ago. Never updated the firmware. I don't even know how you can do it but they do work much better than cannons. Also, I have been using various of brand toners off of Amazon and eBay.

Does anyone know if the new version (at $210) comes with the old or new non-cheap toner compliant firmware?

Can these printers be factory reset back to the original firmware if the refurbs (or new units) come with updated firmware that doesn't work with cheap toner?

After all of these years still the toner/firmware issue discussion. My old Brother cost half and uses TN-450 toner. What does this use?

What is the best place to buy this printer? Amazon or Brother?

I have a problem with both of my Brothers laser printers dropping from my wireless network after a while. Only unplugging the printers and plugging it back in will get it back on the network. It seems to be a common issue. Anyone else was able to resolve this?

If possible, connect it to your router or access point by ethernet. Had the same issue you're having with the wireless, and connecting it by ethernet solved them. Did this a couple of months ago and have zero issues since then.

I have owned a refurbished copier #2710 since January 2019. No problems. I HIGHLY SUGGEST to purchase the Brother cartridge, I always had trouble with off brand. Purchase only genuine! I purchased this toner, lasted two years. https://link.amazon/B0ixB5Jvb

Don't buy then Brother made it difficult for the knockoff to be recognized by the copier.

Is the drum new? I have a similar one that needs a new drum and this is only a little more than a drum unless I get a 3rd party drum.
