It's decent quality but it's also very bulky and seems to drain fairly quickly based on my limited experience and I returned it because there's no room to install it under the hood of a V6 engine properly.

I guess because of the larger size and weight of an extra battery. It's supposed to be for an emergency situation like you left your headlights on, not to make up for a failing battery, though it will help with that, also.

I guess it's supposed to also make your battery last longer by taking some of the load off of it during routine starts.

But why not just buy a $20 jump battery as seen frequently on SD's? What is better about this? It seems like you are essentially mounting a jump starter so you have a redundant battery. I would rather keep mine free and use it as needed.

It's the extended lifespan of the product. It claims to last for 10 years and thousands of cycles, where a regular lithium jump starter is only expected to last a few years before needing replacement.

Since this device is mounted in your engine bay always connected to your battery, it is taking the "stress" off your battery by providing a boost with every start.

I have no idea if these claims are legitimate - or just marketing - but that's the theory anyway.

I want to try one of these permanent booster batteries out. My battery is getting old so i carry a portable jumper around just in case. I want to put this permanent booster on see how long i can get away with the risk of a old battery. I dont want to replace the battery until it is completely done done so even though this is a significant percent of a new battery, my hopes is it will give me so sort of warning when the car battery is caput yet I dont have to pop the hood with a portable booster.

I have the autowit which is like a portable non-installed version of this. It does work, though I can't speak to this installed version of it
