BJ's membership stands out for warehouse savings that can be especially strong on gas, store-brand coffee, deli items, and occasional stackable coupons. The app also supports Scan and Go, self-scan checkout, and coupon checks, which can make checkout faster and help avoid missing discounts. Compared with Costco and Sam's Club, it can be less crowded and require smaller quantities, though prices are often higher than Walmart, Lidl, or Aldi and the coupon clipping can feel tedious. A practical pick if the gas and app perks fit your routine.
Drivers who fill up often, because the local gas price can be low enough to justify the membership.
Shoppers who like warehouse groceries with fewer checkout lines, because scan-and-go lets them scan items while shopping and walk out without registers.
Families buying smaller warehouse quantities, because it can require less purchase volume than Costco and still offer double coupons on the same item.
Members who stock up on store-brand staples, because the house coffee and similar basics can beat comparable club-store prices.
People who want grocery prices below Lidl or Aldi, because the store can be more expensive and still requires bulk buying.
Shoppers who do not want to manage digital coupons, because the app can require weekly clipping and remembering saved offers at checkout.
Shoppers in California, because the membership does not ship there.
Drivers who only buy Top Tier fuel, because the gas is not Top Tier certified.

Although BJ's is a wholesale club, they don't make you purchase quite as much as Costco does.
I can purchase 6 muffins at BJ's and Costco makes me buy 12.
BJ's is also a lot less crowded than Costco, so it's easier to get around.
But I've compared prices on similar items that each store brands (allergy meds, trash bags, etc) and Costco usually beats BJ's a little in price.
I also like that when something is on sale, Costco just gives you the discount versus having to clip coupons in the app for BJ's.
Where I live they pretty much always have the same prices on gas.
