The Descent is a claustrophobic cave horror film that stands out for its tense, hopeless atmosphere, strong sound and set design, and a gut punch ending that sticks with you. The gore stays intense without breaking immersion, and the movie is especially effective if you are claustrophobic. The sequel gets a nod too, though the main draw here is the original. The main caveat is version confusion, since the unrated and standard editions are different titles and the film has both UK and US endings.
The purchase can unlock the Unrated version if it is not already in the Movies Anywhere or Fandango account.
The film delivers a claustrophobic, hopeless tone while keeping gore immersive rather than immersion breaking.
The sound design, set design, and cinematography are praised as excellent for the low-budget horror experience.
The sequel is available in 4K, which can add upgrade value if you also want the follow-up.
The rated and unrated editions can appear as different titles, which may lead to accidental repurchases.
The sequel is described as only okay at best, despite enjoyment of the first film.
The movie can feel extra scary for viewers who are claustrophobic.
The movie has two different endings, including a UK/Director's cut and a US version.
