This Milwaukee solution delivers on performance and size, at only 2.2 lbs bare tool. Users will experience less fatigue throughout their work week while fitting into tight spaces and allowing access where larger impacts can't fit without using additional accessories or disassembling components to reach the desired fastener. Equipped with Tri LED work lights to illuminate your work area without the frustration of shadows. 4-Mode DRIVE CONTROL for greater precision and customization to your desired power output, including AUTO SHUT-OFF that applies no more than 15 ft-lbs of torque for hand-tight applications that prevent overtightening when in forward. In reverse, bolt removal mode will slow down the RPM once the bolt is free to prevent bolts from flying around your work area. To change the modes, it is a single-handed operation. By shifting the forward-reverse shuttle into neutral and double-tapping the trigger, you will be able to change modes effortlessly.

Milwaukee's M12 Fuel 1 2 inch stubby impact wrench is being treated as a compact, handy choice for everyday automotive work, especially when paired with the included high output 5.0 amp hour battery. The 1 2 drive is favored for flexibility, since it can step down to 3 8 sockets with an adapter, and the tool is described as strong enough for typical fastener removal. The main caution is that no charger is included, and some prefer the 3 8 version or a low profile adapter setup for tighter access and less strain. A practical pick if you want a small impact with solid battery support.
DIY mechanics doing routine fastener removal, because the stubby impact is reported to handle typical jobs fine with the included high-output 5.0Ah battery.
Shoppers who need maximum torque for heavy-duty work, because the 3/8 version is described as the stronger choice and the 1/2 stubby is better suited to lighter tasks.
The stubby may be less certain for rust-belt suspension work, especially when a 3/8 impact previously failed to remove stabilizer link bolts on a 2012 Camry.
The 1/2" version is easier to adapt down to 3/8" sockets, while the 3/8" version avoids the stress and breakage risk of 1/2-to-3/8 adapters. The 3/8" model is also described as the one most often reached for, but the 1/2" can still be the better pick if you want to use larger sockets directly.
It should handle typical removal jobs, especially with the included high-output 5.0Ah battery. For heavily rusted suspension hardware, it may still be limited compared with a mid-torque or high-torque impact, but it is reported to remove many 300 ft-lb-class fasteners fine.
It is a solid Home Depot Daily Deal for either the 3/8" or 1/2" Stubby. Similar purchases mentioned include about $164 shipped through the AAFES/Home Depot link and an earlier $206 sale that was later price-adjusted.
No charger is included in this package. It does include the 5.0Ah high-output battery, so you may need a separate M12 charger if you do not already have one.
Yes, a 1/2-to-3/8 adapter lets the 1/2" Stubby run 3/8" sockets. A low-profile adapter is preferred because it adds less length and loses less torque than a standard adapter.
I have both 3/8 and 1/2 and reach for the 3/8 just about 100% of the time.
Does this work ok for rust belt suspension work? I am debating on the 1/2" vs 3/8. I do have a Milwaukee mid-torque but that is a pain to get into some places since I don't have a lift.
I have a Dwalt Atomic 3/8" impact and while it is rated at 400 ft/lbs breakaway it could not get the stabilizer link end bolts off a 2012 Camry.

It will do the job but with a high output 5.0 battery.
For those trying to decide 3/8 or 1/2, I'd recommend 3/8.
1) 1/2 to 3/8 adapters snap all the time. The little 3/8" end just snaps right off on anything over 200 ft pounds. Torque Test Channel on YouTube confirms this.
2)get a set of low profile adapters. If you put a low profile 3/8 to 1/2 adapter it will add less than 1/2 inch to the tools length. It has also been tested that the low profile adapters lose significantly less torque than regular adapters.
3) get a set of 3/8 low profile sockets that go from 6mm to 24mm. Most 3/8 sockets go to 19 mm. These go up to 24mm so no adapters are needed and you will get the most power.
Number 3 isn't absolutely necessary as the low profile adapters do a good job of not lowering max torque that much, so you can just use 1/2 sockets. Check out recent video from Torque Test Channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIKlBb2aVW8
I also like watching the Legit Street Cars channel on YouTube. He disassembles so much of his cars with just the 3/8 stubby. In the end you can't go wrong with either 3/8 or 1/2.

Wow. This is the cheapest I have ever seen it. I just got the 3/8ths for lowest clearance. I Andreas have a low profile Bosch mid torque that is just a hair longer so I'll pass, but man... witha battery? Crazy deal
