This Milwaukee M12 FUEL 1 2 inch stubby impact wrench is aimed at compact automotive work, and the bundled high output 5.0 Ah battery is a useful part of the package. The 1 2 inch version is described as capable for typical fastener removal, and the tool is praised for getting into tight spaces. The package does not include a charger. The main debate is socket size, with strong arguments for 3 8 inch setups and low profile adapters to reduce stress and length, especially for heavier jobs.
DIY mechanics doing routine fastener removal, because the stubby impact will do the job with the included high-output 5.0Ah battery.
Mechanics who want one compact impact for mixed socket sizes, because low-profile adapters and 3/8 sockets can cover larger fasteners without much added length.
The stubby may struggle with some rust-belt suspension fasteners, since a 3/8 impact reportedly could not remove stabilizer link end bolts on a 2012 Camry.
The 1/2" version is easier to adapt down to 3/8" sockets, while the 3/8" version is often preferred for everyday use and can cover more jobs with low-profile adapters and sockets. The 1/2" to 3/8" adapter path puts less stress on the adapter than going the other way.
It should handle typical removal jobs, especially with the included high-output 5.0Ah battery. For heavily seized suspension hardware, it may be enough for some fasteners but a mid-torque or higher-torque tool can still be needed in tougher rust-belt cases.
No charger is included in this package. It does include the high-output 5.0Ah battery, so you may still need a separate M12 charger if you do not already have one.
Yes, it is described as a pretty good Home Depot Daily Deal for either the 3/8" or 1/2" Stubby. One buyer also noted they had bought the same tool earlier for less when it came with two batteries.
I have both 3/8 and 1/2 and reach for the 3/8 just about 100% of the time.
Does this work ok for rust belt suspension work? I am debating on the 1/2" vs 3/8. I do have a Milwaukee mid-torque but that is a pain to get into some places since I don't have a lift.
I have a Dwalt Atomic 3/8" impact and while it is rated at 400 ft/lbs breakaway it could not get the stabilizer link end bolts off a 2012 Camry.

It will do the job but with a high output 5.0 battery.
For those trying to decide 3/8 or 1/2, I'd recommend 3/8.
1) 1/2 to 3/8 adapters snap all the time. The little 3/8" end just snaps right off on anything over 200 ft pounds. Torque Test Channel on YouTube confirms this.
2)get a set of low profile adapters. If you put a low profile 3/8 to 1/2 adapter it will add less than 1/2 inch to the tools length. It has also been tested that the low profile adapters lose significantly less torque than regular adapters.
3) get a set of 3/8 low profile sockets that go from 6mm to 24mm. Most 3/8 sockets go to 19 mm. These go up to 24mm so no adapters are needed and you will get the most power.
Number 3 isn't absolutely necessary as the low profile adapters do a good job of not lowering max torque that much, so you can just use 1/2 sockets. Check out recent video from Torque Test Channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIKlBb2aVW8
I also like watching the Legit Street Cars channel on YouTube. He disassembles so much of his cars with just the 3/8 stubby. In the end you can't go wrong with either 3/8 or 1/2.

Wow. This is the cheapest I have ever seen it. I just got the 3/8ths for lowest clearance. I Andreas have a low profile Bosch mid torque that is just a hair longer so I'll pass, but man... witha battery? Crazy deal

The 1/2 stubby can be paired with a 1/2-to-3/8 adapter to run 3/8 sockets when you need smaller sizes.
The included high-output 5.0Ah battery is part of the setup and helps the stubby impact get the job done.
The 3/8 stubby can be a strong choice because it reportedly delivers more power than the 1/2 version even with the same motor.
The 3/8 drive can be a practical everyday pick since it is reportedly the socket size reached for most of the time.
The package does not include a charger, so you may need to supply one before using the M12 battery.
Using a 3/8-to-1/2 adapter can add stress on the adapter during high-torque work compared with stepping down from 1/2 to 3/8.
1/2-to-3/8 adapters reportedly snap frequently, and the 3/8 adapter end reportedly can snap off on work over about 200 ft-lb.
The stubby may struggle with some rust-belt suspension fasteners, since a 3/8 impact reportedly could not remove stabilizer link end bolts on a 2012 Camry.
