Nice discount, not nice deal. Prices still out of sight for older tech. I think this is the sale before new launches but FWIW if you have the cash...

Good context about the new launch, but I think the new one is expected to be a higher level machine, so not sure this model will recieve price cuts.

New MacBook Pro will probably be missing some AI features... Apple is still probably one more year away from fully realizing edge Ai computing. OLED will be nice but who wants to constantly worry about screen burn-in.

No one is worried about screen burning right now.

What is the important thing you need to do using local AI which you cannot do right now?
Since... that is apparently "missing" and is a year away. What is this mystery thing?

Probably running decent models locally. Honestly though it's gonna be a while before any MacBook Pro - no matter how much memory your pay double retail for - can run a model like you can get with a $20 / month Claude / Chat plan.

Yeah but the $20 have limits and local you can probably keep busy 24/7 if you want?

99% of us will have a warranty on the Oled. The current iPad Pro w/ nano texture, while in reference mode, is single handedly one of the greatest photography monitors I've ever seen and if the MBP is similar, it will dominate.

Great deal if you're looking. I just got back into the Mac world with the 15-core 24GB 1TB model at the same price as this. My condolences if you're waiting for a sale after the M6 announcement. After these discounts over the next month or so you are going to see astronomical price increases due to RAM and chip demands and shortages. I will be pleasantly surprised if M6 base models are less than $2500. M6 prices are going to cause an increased demand for the M5 which will cause these to skyrocket. The new Apple TV 4k is more than twice the price of the high-end last gen model. Good luck.

PSA: Micro-center has in store deals that destroy this. A regular m5 with more RAM is 1900 right now. Seems like they are clearing inventory.

I'd jump on the MacBook deals today as they'll certainly raise prices again once people realize the new MacBook isn't worth the additional price.

That's what happened with the iPhone Air. Retailers slashed prices on those before the iPhone Duo Announcement. Now the prices are back to where they were.

You obviously haven't been near fickle Apple users who cry on Reddit when they find imperfections.
