I bought one last month when this deal first popped up on SD. I've already used it on a 2-night camping trip. Compared to the (increasingly rickety) army-style aluminum and nylon cot it replaced, this one sits slightly lower, weighs marginally more and is a couple of inches longer when stowed. All of those slight disadvantages are vastly outweighed by ease of setup. Particularly because this design doesn't use the crossbars at each end that need to be wrestled into place on more traditional folding cots. In spite of the lack of crossbars, it's rock solid when set up.

Also, I skimmed through the user reviews on Amazon before pulling the trigger. The 2 complaints that jumped out to me were the perceived complexity of the leg locking mechanism and what some people said was an excessively scratchy fabric surface. The legs lock automatically with an audible click when you unfold the cot and the red buttons you push to collapse it seemed perfectly intuitive to me - zero learning curve. So I don't know what users were complaining about. The fabric seems no more or less scratchy than that of the cot it replaced - it's heavy duty nylon for durability. I use a sleeping pad (to insulate against convective heat losses underneath), sleeping bag and a pillow, so there's no direct contact with the fabric in any case. Again, not understanding the concern users were talking about.

Considering this is more stable, easier to set up/take down and costs less than my old cot purchased over 10 years ago, I consider this a bargain at this price.

Curious why would one purchase this over an air mattress on the floor? This can't be more comfortable?

The air mattress would be used for camping as well - it's what I use, but have been considering a cot instead.

Why does woot blatantly sell entire batches of confirmed defective stuff on behalf of the mother ship with zero disclosure. Not saying this item might be defective but they willfully sell faulty / risky defected out batches. Paging ThunderThighs.

Ive always used an air mattress for camping. Sleeping on hard surfaces including a cot has always left me tossing and turning all night and in pain from the hard ground.

Yeah, I wouldn't survive as a off grid mountain man, but I hardly have to worry about that. Id rather be comfortable while camping and not popping ibuprofen to dull the aches.

Just my opinion on cot vs air mattress as it relates to me.

For me personally (tent camping):
  • A cot doesn't spring a leak and deflate in the middle of the night.
  • A cot is generally higher off the floor and thus easier to get in and out of bed (I'm an older tent camper).
  • An Aerobed-style inflatable mattress is in direct contact with the ground and will develop convective air currents - constantly drawing away body heat all night long.
  • I can sit on the edge of a cot to put on shoes, etc. Not so easy on an inflatable air mattress.
  • Actually, I do find a cot more comfortable than an air mattress (more supportive).
  • Very personal preference: campers usually inflate their mattresses with an electric air pump - one of the more unpleasant sounds at a camp site
