FLASHFORGE Creator 5 is a four tool multi material printer that stands out for fast multicolor jobs, purgeless tool changes, and the ability to mix filament types in the same print. The larger 256 millimeter bed and separate heads also make it appealing for bigger parts and redundancy if one head needs service. Current firmware is described as slow, and prime towers still add some waste, so the filament savings are not as dramatic as they first seem. Print quality is praised as excellent, making it a strong fit for multicolor and engineering material work.

Common Questions (5)

  • The Creator 5 uses 4 separate tool heads, so multi-color changes are much faster and avoid filament poop, relying on a prime tower instead. The AD5X uses automatic filament feeding/cutting and is easier to swap nozzles on, but multi-color prints take longer and involve more purge waste.

  • Yes. Tool changes take about 5 seconds, while filament swaps on the AD5X can take over a minute, so multicolor jobs can finish much faster on the Creator 5. One comparison also estimated roughly a day difference in print time on a large multicolor model.

  • It avoids purge poop by using tool changes and a prime tower, but it still needs a prime tower for priming. For prints with many color changes, that can save a meaningful amount of waste; for small numbers of changes, the time and waste can be similar to other systems.

  • Yes, it can handle ABS and other heated-enclosure materials like PA and ASA. It is also being used successfully for multicolor prints, including ABS parts.

  • Yes. Filament changes are manual, and nozzle access requires removing screws rather than a quick tool-less swap. That makes it less convenient than the AD5X, but it can still be useful for heated-enclosure materials like PA and ASA.

It's safe to buy this stuff from Ali Express? They sell so much other junky things I get worried legit hardware like not discounted on other sites are knockoffs or undisclosed refurbs.
Yes I have purchased a few items from them. One or two never arrived but received refund. Their site sucks ass though. Also they can seem a bit scammy. I sometimes ship to a tax free address. That is honored by Amazon, Walmart, ebay etc. But AE charges tax when I ship there. I'm pretty sure they are pocketing this "tax".

Isn't Ali Express shipping items from China which requires US customers pay custom duty nowadays?

The one I bought on the last deal (18% kickback at the time) was shipped to me in 3 days. It def came from within the US.

Got one a week ago from the cashback thing that put price in the $400s. Everything is going well, but just to point out there are some downsides. In general the printer is "slow" on current firmware. You have to print the prime tower because that is how it primes, so filament savings won't be quite as much as you may expect. On things that just have a few color changes horizontal, or things like lightboxes that only have color changes on 2-3 layers the waste and time will be about equal. On the plus side the print quality is amazing.

There are a lot of items on AliExpress that ship from China or ship from the US.

SlickDeals requires all AliExpress deals posted on SD to ship from a US-based warehouse.

Buying items that ship from the US greatly reduces the incidence of fake items; ship times are much faster; & no surprise fees you pay after the initial sale.

The flashforge ad5m is a great budget friendly way to dip your toes into printing. I started there and it didn't take me long to want to do multi material (ad5X) and now low waste multi material (creator 5). Learning on the ad5m helped me a lot to understand the possibilities and limitations of these machines.
