I have 2 of these printers and they have worked well for me and can get hot enough for PA.

Just don't install the latest firmware as it is mostly for making the UI on the display prettier, but inadvertently removes some basic functionality especially if you don't opt for the QIDI Box.

It shows that the QIDI Q2C gets an AMS, one of the two models (see photos). Is this true, or is it just for the Combo?

Only the combo comes with the multi filament qidi box. The cheaper one is compatible and you can add later, but doesn't come with it.

Can it be flashed back if it ships with the latest firmware?

Agreed, but with the multi head printers available in the 500-700 range and this being a relatively less popular brand, the pricing misses the mark for me.

The closest you'd get to a printer of similar specs for $286 in 2018, is a roll of filament for the $40k Stratasys. It's absolutely mind-blowing how fast this industry has been evolving, and somehow it's being revolutionized yet again with the new crop of affordable tool-changers.

Use JJX40D or JJX55D (option w/QIDI Box).

Good printer if you want to use advanced filaments. If you just print PLA/PETG there are cheaper options. If you want to print CF, PA, PC, this is a good printer for that. Qidi build quality is also higher than most of the competition. If you are primarily interested in multi color, look elsewhere.

Yes, it can be flashed back as I had to do it. There are good instructions on how to do it. Involves plugging into a usb-c slot behind a cover inside the unit to be connected to a PC and run their flashing software.

What alternatives are there for this price and print volume? Unless you delve into the bed slingers, I don't see many alternative core xy printers. Maybe the Elegoo Centauri carbon?

Carbon, K1C, Flashforge 5

there are quite a few in this price bracket capable of printing advanced filaments, although most have smaller build volume like 235x235. this Qidi is definitely the best of the bunch at this price though.

I wouldnt hesitate to buy one and I probably will honestly. Ive owned Qidi before, they make good machines.
