Borderlands 4 at about $20 is being framed as a solid value for players who want the base game now, especially if they like the series and do not mind waiting on a fuller edition later. The Super Deluxe version includes the major DLC, and the new vault hunters, bounty packs, raid bosses, takedown content, and endgame additions get strong praise. Gameplay changes like gliding are welcome, but the new inventory system, missing mini map, forgettable story, and frequent glitches draw criticism. The Xbox disc version also has a digital claim feature, though it is console only and not Play Anywhere.

Common Questions (5)

  • If you want the full package, waiting for an eventual Ultimate or all-DLC version makes sense. The Super Deluxe edition already includes the major DLC, and the DLC areas and new vault hunters are part of what some players expect to want later.

  • It is often described as closer to Borderlands 2 than Borderlands 3, but some players say it does not feel much like a typical Borderlands game overall. The writing is also called worse than BL3, while the new vault hunters and endgame content are praised.

  • Yes, $19.90 is a reasonable buy-in for Borderlands 4 if you want to play now. Several comments place it in the $20 range as fair value, though one notes it may eventually dip to around $15 before rising again.

  • Yes, the Xbox version is Disc 2 Digital compatible, so inserting the disc can grant a digital copy to claim. It is not Play Anywhere, so the license stays console-only.

  • The game adds features like gliding, but some players dislike the new inventory system and missing mini-map. Technical issues are also reported, including teleport loops, random item appearance or disappearance, and loading problems.

Xbox version is also Disc 2 Digital compatible, so you get a digital copy to claim. (It's not Play Anywhere, so limited to console only).

If you're not looking to play now, hold out for the "ultimate" version we'll eventually get in the next couple years that includes the DLC. Rumor is the DLC is decent for this one.
it's been out since launch and has been on sale, Super Deluxe Edition.
yeah, I enjoyed the DLCs and the bounty packs. the new vault hunters are the real standout, they're well done and OP as all hell when built up... nod
don't need the Vault Hunter Pack for it, but the raid bosses and the takedown were also enjoyable content. it was a slowwwwwww roll, but they finally made some good end game content.

Isn't that just the super deluxe edition that's available now? I bought it for $40 a couple of months ago. It includes all major DLC.
you are correct sir.

The tough part is do we buy now or hold out just a little longer.

How is this for those who enjoyed BL1, loved BL2, and enjoyed the gameplay of BL3?
I'm a fan of the series and fit your criteria perfectly. I enjoyed BL1, Loved BL2 and liked the gameplay of BL3 (story was lacking but it had moments). I have yet to finish BL4 (about level 35 or so atm). My wife and I play it occasionally. I've liked some of the changes on gameplay, don't like the new inventory system, miss the mini-map for finding my way around, can really tell much about the story (seems kind of forgettable so far). Pros: It's a new borderlands with some cool new polish and features like gliding. The cons: as stated, I miss the minimap and the old inventory system. Don't really care much for most of the powers or characters that I have encountered yet either (Another thing I liked in BL3 was the playable characters and powers) The biggest thing, though is that this has to be the GLITCHIEST game I have ever continued coming back and playing. Sometimes the teleport continues on forever until you try to exit the game. Sometimes things will appear or disappear at random. Sometimes it just has issues loading up in the first place. And on and on

Thank you so much for sharing, it's great that we both align on how we felt about previous entries. It's unfortunate to hear this is the glitchiest one yet. I made the purchase before seeing your comment but wanted to thank you for taking the time. Hopefully some of the glitches can get resolved

what..? you don't need to pay for PSN or XBL subscriptions to play a digital game you've purchased.
he's not saying you do... he means having to buy it off the ps5's digital store after they drop physical

Hold off for the Version with all the DLC. That is what I am doing.

Hold up - I only have an Xbox Series S... can I buy OP's deal for Series X and then claim my digital copy and plan on my Series S?

BL3 is my favorite in the franchise.
Still play it once a week either to farm or just play the arena with some manufacturer company Man and it's weapons. Or play the Maliwan in true trials with Deathless build and URAD weapons. Not sure what it is but just cannot go neck to playing other BL games even though I haven't even started Tiny Tina or completed TPS yet.

Worth it chat ?
Yes. It doesn't feel a whole lot like a Borderlands game, but it's ok and definitely worth the $20 price tag.

If it was 19 on steam I'd go for it, don't want to play on console but not marked down there yet
