Battlefield 6 is being framed as a solid shooter at around $28, with the base game seen as worth that price and the new GOTY edition dismissed as mostly cosmetics rather than meaningful content. The game is also available through Game Pass, and a Steam free play window was noted for October 15 to 19. The main hesitation is value, with some holding out for a much lower price or a future PlayStation Plus drop. Content removal also stings, especially the loss of Squad Deathmatch.

  • Battlefield fans who want a large-scale shooter with hundreds of hours of playtime, because the base game is described as worth $28 and a strong FPS deal below $20.

  • Xbox players who use Game Pass, because the game is already included there and can be played without buying it separately.

  • Players who enjoy the current mode lineup, because the game still feels great when the removed Squad Deathmatch mode is not a must-have.

  • PC players who want a free weekend to test the game, because Steam is getting a free-play window that lets them try it before paying.

  • Deal hunters waiting for a deep discount, because $27.99 is described as too late and some are holding out for $10 or less.

  • Players who need every original mode intact, because Squad Deathmatch was removed and the missing content made the game less appealing after purchase.

  • PC players who already tuned their EA app setup, because the free-play window may not apply there and can disrupt an installed keybind and sensitivity setup.

  • Players expecting the game to stay fully progression-friendly, because XP is described as being slowed down to push shortcut kits.

Disappointed they removed Squad Deathmatch. It was the best game mode in my opinion. I've practically stopped playing since they made that change and I'm not thrilled they removed content that was a part of the game originally when I bought it.

I'd argue that anything below $20 is a phenomenal price for a masterpiece like BF1 that will easily give you back hundreds of hours of entertainment.

That said, BF1 has dipped down to $2 many many times. $5 is a great score regardless. One of the best deals in FPS gaming IMO.
Masterpiece is a good word for it. Battlefield 1 is absolutely an amazing game. 💯
