They just announced the GOTY edition today.

IMO the GOTY edition is too expensive, but the base game is worth $28. Here's the recent "what do you think of the game" reddit posts that had a LOT of comments.

ehhhh on steam there's 37,000 online right now with a 60k peak this weekend. it's averaging 20k to 40k overall though in the last month. it's more than COD (29k 24 hour peak) but less than overwatch at 61k (steam)

It's just cosmetics anyway, not any real content. "Too expensive" is besides the point. I would call it "unnecessary"

Battlefield 6 is being framed as a solid shooter at around $28, with the base game seen as worth that price and the new GOTY edition dismissed as mostly cosmetics rather than meaningful content. The game is also available through Game Pass, and a Steam free play window was noted for October 15 to 19. The main hesitation is value, with some holding out for a much lower price or a future PlayStation Plus drop. Content removal also stings, especially the loss of Squad Deathmatch.

  • The base game price around $28 is framed as worth buying now rather than waiting for the more expensive GOTY cosmetics bundle.

    Eragorn

  • The game's addition to Xbox Game Pass can reduce the effective cost if you already subscribe.

    tenkawa10

  • Steam free-play on Oct 15-19 can let you test the game before committing, at least on Steam.

    bootymonger

  • Steam concurrency suggests the game maintains a meaningful player base, with a 60k peak reported for a recent weekend.

    Eragorn

  • Some buyers consider $27.99 too high and only plan to purchase at around $10 or below.

    smackattackDeagle760

  • GOTY pricing is criticized as too expensive because the added items are described as cosmetics rather than new content.

    SuperFig70

  • A removed mode called Squad Deathmatch can reduce long-term value after purchase.

    g33kazoid

  • Steam free-play may not apply to the EA app or Windows version, which can be inconvenient for players already set up there.

Disappointed they removed Squad Deathmatch. It was the best game mode in my opinion. I've practically stopped playing since they made that change and I'm not thrilled they removed content that was a part of the game originally when I bought it.

I'd argue that anything below $20 is a phenomenal price for a masterpiece like BF1 that will easily give you back hundreds of hours of entertainment.

That said, BF1 has dipped down to $2 many many times. $5 is a great score regardless. One of the best deals in FPS gaming IMO.
Masterpiece is a good word for it. Battlefield 1 is absolutely an amazing game. 💯
