IMO the GOTY edition is too expensive, but the base game is worth $28. Here's the recent "what do you think of the game" reddit posts that had a LOT of comments. https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefi..._thoughts/
ehhhh on steam there's 37,000 online right now with a 60k peak this weekend. it's averaging 20k to 40k overall though in the last month. it's more than COD (29k 24 hour peak) but less than overwatch at 61k (steam)
Battlefield 6 is a fun, fast-paced shooter that captures classic Battlefield chaos, with enough appeal to feel worth around $28 for the base game. The community praise centers on its core multiplayer action, while the single-player campaign is described as very short at about 2 to 3 hours. There are also complaints about bugs, poor match balancing, removed modes like Squad Deathmatch, and a push toward shortcut kits through slower XP progression. A solid pick if you want the multiplayer and can live with the rough edges.
Players who want a fun large-scale shooter with classic Battlefield chaos, because it captures that feel even with faster pacing.
Players who expect every classic Battlefield feature to be intact, because Squad Deathmatch was removed and some standout older-series immersion and destruction are missing.
Players who already have the EA Windows app set up, because the free-play window may not apply there and can disrupt existing keybind and sensitivity setups.
Some shoppers are holding out for a sub-$10 price, especially with past EA Battlefield discounts and competing shooters offering more at lower prices. Others think anything under $20 is already a strong FPS deal, so the right move depends on how much you value playing now versus waiting for a deeper cut.
The base game is considered worth about $28, especially compared with the newly announced GOTY edition, which is seen as overpriced for mostly cosmetic extras. If you want the core Battlefield experience now, $27.99 is a reasonable buy; if you only care about extras, waiting for a deeper sale makes more sense.
Yes, it was added to Game Pass today. If you subscribe there, you can play without buying this deal, and some shoppers are waiting to see if it later lands on PlayStation Plus instead of paying now.
No, Squad Deathmatch was removed, and that change has pushed some players to stop playing. If that mode was a main reason you bought the game, the current version may feel like it has less content than at launch.
Disappointed they removed Squad Deathmatch. It was the best game mode in my opinion. I've practically stopped playing since they made that change and I'm not thrilled they removed content that was a part of the game originally when I bought it.
I'd argue that anything below $20 is a phenomenal price for a masterpiece like BF1 that will easily give you back hundreds of hours of entertainment.
That said, BF1 has dipped down to $2 many many times. $5 is a great score regardless. One of the best deals in FPS gaming IMO.
BF1's longevity validates its status as a masterpiece since it has by far the most active player count out of all recent BFs (BFV is a distant second, but rest are all pretty much dead -- i'm talking about BF2042, BF4, BF3, etc)

As a long time Battlefield player (been playing since 2142/BF2), BF6 is pretty fun.
But for me, it doesn't quite reach some of the really standout features of past BF games (the immersion of BF1 and 2142, destruction of BF3/4), and the pacing is faster than previous titles which I have mixed feelings on. I've also encountered a fair amount of bugs and poor balancing in matches.
That being said, it's fun and captures some of the classic battlefield chaos.

This game is ASS, FYI. For months they've been removing core modes to increase matchmaking and it's done nothing. Half the games you load into will have bots. Don't believe me? Google it. AI slop.

The game can be a strong value when it drops below $20 for FPS playtime.
The game was added to Xbox Game Pass, which can reduce the effective purchase cost.
The game can deliver classic Battlefield chaos and remains fun for long-time Battlefield players.
Steam shows meaningful concurrent activity, including a higher peak during the weekend.
The single-player campaign reportedly lasts only about two to three hours, which can feel short for the price.
Matchmaking can suffer from bugs and poor match balancing, which can hurt online sessions.
A removed mode called Squad Deathmatch can reduce content value after purchase.
Free-play timing may apply to Steam but not the EA app or Windows version, which can complicate access for existing EA installs.
