These are surprisingly good keyboards. I have the C64 one and it's one of my favourites in the collection. Really considering this one at this price as well, but recent other purchases have blown the nerd budget for a while. Really good deal.

The 8BitDo Retro 87 key mechanical keyboard stands out as a well built, satisfying typing board with Bluetooth, 2.4 gigahertz, and USB C support. The box white switches feel great, the switches are easy to swap, and battery life is strong on the 2.4 gigahertz dongle. The current price is far below past Amazon pricing, making it especially appealing for a backup or switch upgrade. The main drawbacks are the loud clicky sound, no number pad, and no black lighting, so it fits home use and desk setups better than quiet offices.

Common Questions (5)

  • It uses box white switches and is noticeably loud, so it is not ideal for a quiet office or for someone sitting nearby. It is better suited to home use if you want a satisfying clicky typing feel.

  • No, the 87-key version does not include a number pad. If you need one, you can buy a separate numpad or choose the larger version instead.

    Waffles11BigBowlOfRice

  • Yes, the switches are easy to swap, and the keyboard can also take silent switch upgrades if you want a quieter setup. That makes it a practical base for customization at this price.

  • A separate hand rest is recommended for comfort, and a keycap puller is not included. A 2-prong remover or tweezers work for switch removal, while a 4-prong puller does not.

    BigBowlOfRicemegablank

  • Battery life is reported to be great when using the 2.4GHz dongle. That makes the wireless mode a strong option if you want fewer charging interruptions.

The deal will likely be back. It was this same price in late August when I grabbed one.

Be warned. This keyboard is too loud, not good for office environment but I use it at home and love it. It's so satisfying to type on it.
Great for typing, less great for the person sitting next to you.

This is my work keyboard (I work at Nintendo), and I loved it so much I bought the full version to use at home. Best keyboard I've ever used. At this price I kind of want to buy another one for a backup

Its sold out, a fun keyboard.
4 key puller https://www.amazon.com/Keycap-Pul...ref=sr_1_4 (cheaper on aliexpress) not included but good getting out anything that falls in, and the key switches are removed with a 2 prong type remover or tweezer, the 4 prong doesn't work. the clips are on the bottom and top.

You could technically get some silent switches to put in this. The price is low enough to where this would make sense.
