The new version of this set that comes out next year, is rumored to be made entirely in China....so this might be your last chance to get some real USA tool steel in your shop.
Anyways, which set is better? I don't have a tap & die set yet, and have no clue which one would be better :x

Menards lowers the 'everyday price' on sale items, because some States require stores to offer the same discount on a similar item, if a sale item sells out. Then menards can say, OK here is 25% discount on another tap and die set (instead of a 75% discount).
It's $77 at Lowes too, with only 6 left in stock :

If you have never tapped anything, the self-centering of the 14pc might be better.
-
Use gobs of lube (even vegetable oil), turn, the moment you feel resistance - reverse to break the chip, then turn again, reverse on resistance, and repeat.
Once in a while, you might have to spin it apart and clear out all the chips
Take your time, it's super easy and you'll get the hang of it in 5 minutes.
Store the taps lubed so they don't rust. Mineral oil or motor oil is fine.

I've simply never purchased one for at home

Then I guess get whichever set has the handle configuration you are familiar with.
