jbwhite99, Maelstrom is also what my swing looks like, so the name feels right. The shoe pocket is for golf shoes on a weekend trip, which is the only reason I need a 17 inch laptop backpack.

I know nothing about this travel pack but I have one of their boot bags. It's very well designed and decent quality for the price. I have used it regularly for two full seasons.

Wouldn't it be easier to pack if I bagged each shoe and put in the the main compartment? Not using the shoe pouch seems to give more flexibility in packing instead of packing around the shoes (pouch mode).
2 individually bagged shoes i can move 1 or both to the side or top or middle, they are not forced together this way.

I tested this type of bag couple months ago and this was the first thought while packing.

I'd say it's more for sanitary purposes than anything. You really want dirty shoes all over stuff?

Understandable, you would need to bag each shoe separately
