Preorder it on Amazon and forget it, the preorder price guarantee does the rest.

I think that's what I find the oddest, that the Amazon one gets reposted every week when the pre order guarantee means it will be that price for most people anyway that use Amazon to pre order.

Probably a stupid numbers game of potentially toggling it on and off sale so people can have FOMO and order it "while it is on sale".

Worth buying, as this is probably going to be the last good Metroid game. It seems that failure is rewarded in the video game industry now, so the team that ruined the Prime series will probably be given total control of the Metroid series after these and will ruin future 2D games too. (or Nintendo will conclude that there not enough interest Metroid anymore since it doesn't sell like Mario or Zelda)

Do these games typically go up in price to retail once they release? I hate preordering games and would love to walk in on release date and still get the deal

Depends look at what happened to dread I can't believe how much that game goes for on ebay. And ravenous is its sequel, so that game so it may hold its msrp for a good while.
