This DeWalt retractable utility knife stands out for comfortable handling, onboard blade storage, and quick blade changes, with a blade change system that does not need a screwdriver. It also works well for routine jobs like cutting caulk and scoring drywall, especially when paired with sharp blades and regular blade changes. The main drawbacks are durability and reliability, since the plastic body can be less rugged than metal alternatives, the retraction mechanism can jam, and blade depth cannot be adjusted. A practical pick if you want a simple, comfortable utility knife and do not need heavy duty toughness.

Save your arms and don't use this for that.

I bought this knife some years back, upgrading from a worn out, janky harbor freight model. There may easily be better options out there, but I have really enjoyed using it. It is comfortable in my hand, the blade storage is more than adequate and the blade change system is easy to use.
In fact my wife liked it so much that she kept stealing it from my tool bags when she needed it around the house. I eventually bought her an identical one for her Christmas stocking. She was thrilled.
I don't know if this is an amazing price, but it is a good quality tool.

If you're using a utility knife to score and snap off pieces of drywall they all should perform the same, just whatever is most comfortable in your hand. If you're cutting out sections in the middle of the drywall or working on a sheet that's already installed i'd recommend a jabsaw instead

I like this utility knife. The blade storage is fairly large and doesn't require a screwdriver to access. The blade changes and depth adjustment are quick.

It isn't as durable as a metal one. I had one melt when it was in a bucket with a can of brake cleaner that leaked on it.

I immediately replaced it with two more. I usually use a utility knife when I'm doing something that would wreck a pocket knife. It's nice to change to a fresh blade quickly. The angle and grip are comfortable.

Milwaukee Fastbacks are $16 for 2 at Home Depot. I'd recommend them over every utility knife I've ever used. The flip motion is very natural compared to how easily any sliding blade works (also had way too many sliding blade knives slip back into the case at the wrong time)

You can, but the grip is way worse. That said, you can get 4 flippy utility knives from temu for $10 as well. This price is pretty steep for the product

Don't buy this knife or dewalt's larger 10 blade holder version. I'm a carpenter I've used many utility knives over the years. I bought this one and the bigger version to replace one that was lost. Neither has lasted more than two months. The retraction mechanism for the blade quickly jams and gets stuck open or closed. Rendering the knife useless at best dangerous at worst. I've returned 2 or 3 to Home Depot because of it.

Interesting. I've been using mine to cut caulk around windows (that time of the year). Haven't had an issue and some of the last windows had to be chiseled, the caulk was that hard (not mortar). I also buy the sharper and harder blades rather than regular blades. Mine is the five blade version.

I've cut plenty of drywall with a utility knife. You aren't pressing through the drywall, you are scoring the paper and then snapping it. Cut the backside paper and then hang. Keep the blade free of debris and change blades when it dulls. Should fly through it. Tape and utility knife for most cuts, jab saw like someone else said, then a rotary tool for some things like cans in ceilings. I also have a drywall handsaw that rarely gets used.
