Pace's mild canned nacho cheese sauce is a cheap, convenient topping, but the comments lean toward preferring other options for better flavor and texture. The jarred Pace queso gets a better nod than this canned version, and Great Value, Tostitos, or even homemade cheese sauce are described as tastier alternatives. The sauce is also said to freeze well in portioned containers. At this price, it is mainly a budget filler if you want a basic nacho cheese fix.

Agreed, I would love to find an alternative nacho cheese that is similar to Taco Bell. None of these orange cheese sauces I've tried compares.

I do like the white queso dip they sell at Costco sometimes

I'm not sure why I bought this. But I did. Never had cheese from a tin can.

How is this cheese compared to Rico's it's like a third of the price at this price point.
It's terrible in my opinion. Pace's jarred stuff is decent like Tostito's, but this canned nacho cheese sauce is bottom of the barrel. Just about every brand is better. I usually buy the Great Value #10 can and store the rest in 16 oz containers in my freezer.

Gross, even for nacho cheese sauce (not exactly haute cuisine), this is bad.

This is not good. Taco bell is not good either. Look at ingredients. It is so simple to make yourself:
Select a high quality cheese you like, for example sharp cheddar. Add some sodium citrate (chemical formulæ NACHO, not kidding), some liquid to get the right consistency, and you have the best nacho cheese sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 8 oz (225g) high-quality cheese (sharp cheddar, pepper jack, or a mix), freshly grated
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) liquid (water, milk, or beer)
  • 1 tsp (4g) sodium citrate
  • Optional add-ins: Tomato puree, lemon juice, Chopped pickled jalapeños, a dash of hot sauce, or a pinch of cumin/chili powder.
1.Dissolve the Salt:
Whisk the sodium citrate into your cold liquid in a medium saucepan until it is completely dissolved.
2.Bring to a Simmer:
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the liquid to a gentle simmer.
3.Whisk in the Cheese:Add slowly to prevent clumping.
Reduce the heat to low. Add the grated cheese a small handful at a time, whisking continuously. Do not add the next handful until the previous one is completely melted and emulsified into the sauce.
4.Customize and Serve:
Once all the cheese is incorporated and the sauce is perfectly smooth, stir in any jalapeños, hot sauce, or spices. Serve immediately, or keep warm over very low heat.
Key insight: Always grate your cheese from a block. Pre-shredded bagged cheeses are coated with anti-caking agents (like cellulose) that will make your final sauce grainy, even with the melting salt.

That's awesome, thanks! Never knew you could make a cheese sauce without a roux!!

use real cheese. $2 for 8oz, there's always a cheddar store brand or queso on sale. $1.69 8oz cheddar cheese slices at target of various sharpness. i layer them on tortilla chips and chopped jalapenos and it melts perfectly.

I really don't like Taco Bell's jar sauce. It reminded me of velveeta which I don't really like either. I love Rico's tho.

I bought some this year and it's still in the fridge. I'd like to use it but just doesn't feel like it's worth the very minimal effort to try again. Like it devalues whatever it's put on. It just tastes like extremely cheap cheese sauce that could've been made better with just a small increase in price but that was too much.

Just recently bought the ricos and was quite pleased with putting a little on my scrambled eggs and a stipe of it on my hot dogs.. How would you compare the great value to the ricos ?
