The Xbox Elite Series 2 Core stands out for its premium feel, with a heavier weight, strong shape, and a comfortable grip that feels great when it is working. The main appeal is the Elite-style build and controls, but durability is the recurring concern, with stick drift, mushy buttons, and analog issues showing up anywhere from out of the box to about a year in. Extended warranty coverage comes up as a practical safeguard. A solid-feeling controller, but one that may need protection to stay worthwhile.

  • The Elite feel, including shape and heavier weight, can be enjoyable while it works.

  • The controller can stay drift-free for several years with non-daily use.

  • Microsoft replacement support can help when stick drift appears within months of ownership.

  • A used mint-condition unit can be found at a lower price, such as $84.

  • Stick drift can show up quickly, including within eight months or around a year.

  • The controller can break within two years even under light gaming use.

  • Some units can arrive with left analog problems and a mushy A button out of the box.

  • The controller can become unreliable within about a year, turning into an unusable experience.

These are great when they work, but I've had two of these break within 2 years of ownership with light gaming.

POS Controller. Bought one and right out the box had issues. Funky Left Analog and mushy A button. Hopefully v3 is fixed. I would honestly advise to skip and wait. Lots of rumors the V3 is gonna drop real soon.

I just be the anomaly but I've had mine for several years and it's still working great. No drift, nothing falling off, no buttons sticking etc. I don't use it daily or anything but definitely decent usage.

I wish I only had two break... I'm on about my 15th controller since launch of the elite 2. Not exaggerating. This is the best controller for when it works, but once it get's stick drift or the buttons get mushy, I file a manufacture warranty claim or file an extended warranty claim. I always spend the $20 for the extended warranty as it will be needed.

I just picked up a new one this weekend and the right thumb stick already had stick drift out of the box.

Every once in awhile, Target will these for $99.

I bought two Elite controllers and both broke on me faster than my regular controllers ever did. They felt good while they lasted, but I'm done giving them a shot.

Decent deal. But you're still paying for the standard guts and will get stick drift eventually. Bought a similar deal a couple years ago. It failed faster than my non elite controller

Love the feel of the Elite but my first one had stick drift within 8 months. MS replaced it but still. Buy the protection plan if you go for it.

You're an "elite" controller why do we still have stick drift and why aren't you using Hall Effect sticks? I bought one, it lasted about a year before stick drift. I'll pass and stick with my GameSir controllers. Although I did really enjoy the weight (heavier than most) of the elite controller.

What ever happened to the rumored Elite 3 maybe with Hall Effect Sticks?

Extended warranty is a must. And mark your calendar and make sure you use it

There was a time when the core models would show up around $70. I bought three and am still on #2. Haven't seen it on sale like that for years.

I was hoping it would bridge me to the V3 model but more and more I wonder if that will ever happen.
