Maybe I'm missing something. In what situation does a metal (or glass) cutting boards make sense? I can only see them ruining the knives.

Same thoughts crossed my mind. My best guess? Metal boards do have some advantages associated with cleaning. Traditional wood boards - simply by their very nature - can harbor bacteria which may be difficult to remove without extra effort and/or specialized antibacterial cleaning agents. On the other hand, metals boards are generally good to go after a quick scrub with soap and water.

As with almost everything: it's probably a matter of tradeoffs, i.e. both options have pros and cons which will appeal (or not) to different users depending upon their priorities and use cases. I mean...ultimately, knives can always be sharpened, and salmonella (or whatever) will usually pass in a few days. Pick your poison, so to speak.

One point of clarification, wood cutting boards harboring bacteria on their surface are removed with normal cleaning like any other board, and any that exist deeper in the wood fibers are killed by most* woods natural antimicrobial effects.

Stainless steel would be enough I don't see a point in using titanium which costs more
