This is a highly competitive route served by many world class carriers and CA is not one of them.
For $5,200 you could fly Asiana through Seoul which would be significantly better.
For less than 4,800 you could fly Philippine Airlines, which while only moderately better than Air China would allow you to avoid transiting in Beijing, which if you have any delays/misconnect becomes a nightmare if you are not a Chinese passport/Visa holder.
For 6K you could fly ANA which is world class.
If you don't fear transiting in the Middle East, Etihad is under 5K
But realistically if you are already dropping 5K on biz class I would just bite the bullet and fly Cathay Pacific non stop for $6500 - unless you want to stop over somewhere on the way.
asiana will cease operations on dec 17, 2026. haven't posted asiana in a while knowing that and that's the closest to level to air china.
philippine airlines is having their sale on monday, let's see what they'll have.
etihad stops in the middle east...i'll skip those flights for now.
ana and cathay pacific nonstop, not comparing apples to apples.
zipair does not fly out of new york. if you're talking about repositioning, you'll still have to pay for your flight to a departure city they serve. and even so, zipair's business class is just a lie flat seat, no other service, including complimentary meals and lounge access.
yes, you may have a 7-day stopover in beijing with air china.
