This is a 512GB microSD Express card for Switch 2, and the main draw is getting the right high speed format for Nintendo's new console. Costco's $89.99 price lands below Walmart and well under other major retailers, with the 512GB Express market still sitting above older regular microSD pricing. The card is confirmed to work with Switch 2, and the speed requirements explain why compatible cards cost more. A website shipping error is also being reported, with customer service saying to try again later. A solid option if you need Switch 2 compatible storage now.

Common Questions (3)

  • Yes. It is a microSD Express card, which the Switch 2 requires, and it will not work as a standard microSD card. The Express interface is much faster than regular SD, which is why compatible cards cost more.

  • Yes. The Costco price is below Walmart's $98 listing and far under other major retailers listed at $130 to $182. Historical pricing also puts 512GB microSD Express cards around $65 to $80, so $89.99 is still a solid current deal.

  • Yes. The card can be bought ahead of time if you expect to fill a Switch 2 quickly, especially for digital game libraries. A 256GB Switch OLED can already be full, and the 512GB size gives more room for large downloads.

It's the other way around. Companies are hoarding high capacity NAND storage for AI. Seeing how they decimated the consumer market, manufacturing resources have shifted to B2B production and sales, as greater profits can be made by selling to data centers than to the subset of consumers. It wouldn't be that merchandisers aren't stocking them because they don't sell, it would be that manufacturing resources are going towards AI because that sells better.
Right. I'd personally love to have a 1TB SD Express card, but I'm completely unwilling to pay $350-400 for one. Nintendo has definitely missed a few purchases from me due to the limited space available on my Switch 2 (currently 768GB total with internal + 512GB SD Express).

I really want a 1TB, but i can't justify $350 on top of $520 for the new zelda switch 2. I'll survive with 512 for a couple years and deal with it.

I really hope the golden days to come back : $22 for 512GB on Apr 7, 2025 -- https://slickdeals.net/f/18234763-sandisk-512gb-imagemate-pro-microsdxc-uhs-1-memory-card-with-adapter-up-to-200mb-s-sdsqxbd-512g-aw6ka-21-53
That's funny and sad. This is an Express card though, not quite an apt comparison.

I just chatted customer service and the shipping error is a known website issue. Currently their only directions are to tell customers to try again later 🫤
I was told the same thing initially. I said that I had been searching while in queue and found a post that Customer Service had offered to reimburse the Express shipping, and after that he offered to do the same for me.

Every time a micro sd express card is posted there's always a few that don't understand this isn't just a standard micro sd card. Goes to show how awful the naming is on this standard. Micro ssd might have been a better name.

Apparently I'm just not connecting with the right service reps, lol. I got a HARD no on all the options. I mean, I guess I'll eat the $10, it's just frustrating that the experience isn't consistent.

How about Micro NVME or mobile PCIe? Either of those are totally distinct and much less confusing. I guess it's hard because they made the standard backwards compatible with Micro SD though. Personally, I'd be fine without the backwards compatiblity and a totally different name for this use case, which is basically Switch 2 upgrades and maybe portable PC gaming systems in the future.

Not sure why someone gave you a thumbs down for asking a question. Yes, this item works for Switch 2. Look at the description. If it doesn't say "Works with switch 2" then it doesn't. Needs certain read/write speeds that most regular SD cards don't have. So that's a big reason why the compatible ones are so expensive. I keep crossing my fingers and holding my breath that we'll get better deals in the future. 90+ gb for FFVII . . . . crazy.
It's a different interface. The Switch 2 requires a MicroSD Express card. It won't work with regular MicroSD cards. SD Express cards can hit about 10x the speed of regular SD cards.

I guess there was also a caveat that they can't refund it until it actually ships/arrives, but oh well, got it ordered at least.

yeah often warehouses will have unique sku's/models just to prevent matching.

Shokz has their OpenRun SE for example

I was told that it was issued and would take 2-3 business days but that's all
