Nice looking enclosure. Now if I could only afford an NVMe drive to put in there...

Good option for putting an old small drive to work. Any large drive should be in an active cooling enclosure, until the crisis ends.

What's the largest drive you would consider in this?

Depends on how wealthy you are, and what you use them for. I wouldn't use 1TB or higher today with how I use them.

For 1TB on up I'd get a used TB3-and-USB unit with active cooling off of eBay.

If you're really desperate you can get a fan and put it underneath this. Won't be as good but should be fairly effective.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I have the sata/nvme and this nvme only case. I have tried many others in this price range. This model uses a real heat sink. That is great. This one also uses a VERRY small screw to secure the case. My point is that If you are going to make your drive live out the rest of its life in this device, you cant go wrong. If you want to use it to quckly swap drives, this is cumbersome to use.

I have a 2tb sata M.2 in one and I figure it is there for the duration.

Fiedco makes truely tooless case with the top as a real heat sync. It just flips open and the ole rubber plug to set size of the drive. That is my favorite right now.

I have a couple of these, and they are good, but I have found that they will overheat if you're copying large amount of files to them and disconnect.

For general use though they are pretty good just not during heavy times

Not a bad price, but as mentioned, I don't want to need a tool to change out drives. So only practical as a semi-permanent enclosure, and not for heavy, constant use, due to heat. Nice for a little storage or backup drive housing.

I'm using one of these constantly powered with a 2TB drive as Plex/emby storage on an Nvidia Shield Pro, and it has been flawless for at least a year.

Not exactly a stressful environment, and it runs cool to the touch.

Anyone know why it says it doesn't support Toshiba SSDs? Seems like an odd exclusion

I've had one now for over 2 yrs. Very solid design, fast. Not a quick change housing. Great for a fast durable M2 SSD very portable housing.

I've been using one of these for over a year with a 4TB drive. WD 7100 with not very heavy usage. No problems at all.

Ancillary aside, there's no guarantee that this storage crisis will end in the next two or three years. Cumulative heatwear you won't notice until one day the drive doesn't turn on.
