However, all it will take is one deal with an AT&T or Xfinity to allow LG TVs to connect to their open wifi / guest networks to have your offline tv suddenly sending data home to LG again.
This problem will get worse before it gets better.
"LG's own marketing pitch to businesses says that "we know who's in the LG household. We know which devices are there. We know what you're exposed to on TV and we know how to extend that reach into mobile."
Community Reviews
This LG C6 OLED evo AI 4K TV is being discussed mainly for its picture quality and smart TV features, but the thread centers on privacy concerns and pricing. The set has a physical microphone on and off switch, and a workaround is to use a temporary guest network for setup, then block the TV from the router and rely on a streaming box. Pricing also looks soft, with the LG Partner Store showing $899 and $809 after the EARLYBF10 code, while Costco matches $999.99 with extra warranty and better delivery terms.
Viewers who want a large OLED picture and are willing to use a streaming box, because the built-in TV interface can be bypassed after setup.
Owners who want to keep the set off the network between updates, because the TV can be blocked at the router and only briefly unblocked for firmware updates.
Shoppers who want a physical microphone kill switch, because the set includes an on/off switch for the microphone.
Privacy-sensitive households, because the TV can collect data, attempt to reconnect to Wi‑Fi, and send information home when it gets network access.
Deal hunters comparing total value, because the same TV is listed lower through the partner store and Costco includes extra warranty coverage plus better delivery and returns.
People who want a simple smart-TV experience, because the built-in interface can be bad enough that a streaming box is the preferred workaround.

The "well everyone's probably doing it" assumption is not a great one.
The only way these companies will stop is to NOT buy them. And let them know, share eith each other and elect officials who care about privacy and get involved. which every red, blue, green, purple, or any mule, eagle, tractor political party you think of, should care about.
same price at costco:
- costco units come with 3 additional years of all state protection plan so 5 years total warranty coverage
- costco direct shipping and delivery to room of choice is included or pickup in store
- costco price adjustment in first 30 days
- costco return policy
objectively better deal at costco but my post gets downvoted

Anyway I agree with your larger point: it will get better before it gets worse.
