"LG's own marketing pitch to businesses says that "we know who's in the LG household. We know which devices are there. We know what you're exposed to on TV and we know how to extend that reach into mobile."
However, all it will take is one deal with an AT&T or Xfinity to allow LG TVs to connect to their open wifi / guest networks to have your offline tv suddenly sending data home to LG again.
This problem will get worse before it gets better.
Community Reviews
This LG C6 OLED evo is being discussed as a bright 4K gaming TV with a native 120 hertz panel that can reach 165 hertz with variable refresh rate. The picture quality and gaming performance are the main draws, and the set includes a physical microphone on and off switch. Pricing looks better through the LG Partner Store, where it is listed at $899 and can drop to $809 with the EARLYBF10 code. The main concern is privacy, with repeated claims about microphones, telemetry, and the TV continuing to connect unless it is blocked or unplugged, so many setups lean on an external streaming box and tighter network controls.
Common Questions (5)
It can continue trying to connect and may send stored data once a network becomes available again. A practical workaround is to keep it blocked at the router, only unblock it for updates, then re-block it.
Yes. The LG Partner Store was reported at $899, and with the EARLYBF10 coupon it showed $809 in cart at checkout, which is below the $999.99 deal price.
Using an external streaming box is a common workaround if you want to avoid the TV's built-in UI and keep the TV mostly offline. The panel can be treated as a display while the streaming client stays on the external device.
Yes. The set has a physical on/off switch for the microphone, which lets you disable it at the hardware level instead of only through software settings.
The panel's native refresh rate is 120Hz, and with VRR it can reach 165Hz. That makes it a better fit for high-refresh gaming setups than a standard 120Hz-only TV.

It does add extra hassle. For sure. But if it gets you the TV you want for the right price, it's worth it.

Don't connect any "smart" TV to the Internet. If there's a firmware update you care about (something that affects display performance or longevity, not just security patches or streaming service changes) most of them still support updating via USB.
Pick the external streaming box you like best, or trust most. Apple probably harvests the least data, or at least shares it with the fewest third parties, of the "legitimate" options, but YMMV. Or take the "if buying isn't ownership, piracy isn't they" approach; I won't judge you for it, but neither will I represent you in court for it.

I looked it up and there are LG monitors with built in webcams but this is not one of them.... Needless to say I am going to return it.
