This LG C6 OLED evo AI 4K TV is being discussed mainly for its picture quality and smart TV features, but the thread centers on privacy concerns and pricing. The set has a physical microphone on and off switch, and a workaround is to use a temporary guest network for setup, then block the TV from the router and rely on a streaming box. Pricing also looks soft, with the LG Partner Store showing $899 and $809 after the EARLYBF10 code, while Costco matches $999.99 with extra warranty and better delivery terms.

Common Questions (3)

  • The LG Partner Store was listed at $899, and a Black Friday checkout price of $809 was shown with the EARLYBF10 code. Costco was also reported at $999.99, but it includes 3 extra years of Allstate protection, room-of-choice delivery, and a better return policy.

  • A practical approach is to connect it to a temporary guest network for setup and updates, then disconnect it and use a streaming box instead of the TV interface. Another option is to block the TV at the router, unblock only for updates, then re-block it.

  • Yes. The set has a physical on/off switch for the microphone, which lets you disable it at the hardware level instead of only through software settings.

No doubt Samsung does the same thing.
Except that people are trying to show that this is true constantly and so far we've seen nothing concrete.

The "well everyone's probably doing it" assumption is not a great one.

LG oled is not a necessity people. These are wants and desires. You'll be fine with the TV you have. LG has 4000 clicks (on their scroll bar) worth of EULAs. They also say you have gathered consent of anyone in your home or guest that LG can record and transmit their voice and contents of their conversation.

The only way these companies will stop is to NOT buy them. And let them know, share eith each other and elect officials who care about privacy and get involved. which every red, blue, green, purple, or any mule, eagle, tractor political party you think of, should care about.

same price at costco:
- costco units come with 3 additional years of all state protection plan so 5 years total warranty coverage
- costco direct shipping and delivery to room of choice is included or pickup in store
- costco price adjustment in first 30 days
- costco return policy

objectively better deal at costco but my post gets downvoted

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

Getting tvs from Cosctco or Sams with 5yr included warranty is smart. Spending a grand on LG spyware from Amazon is not so much.

Sign the TV into a temporary guest network for initial install. Add updates. Disconnect and never reconnect. Use a streaming box instead of the bad TV UI. It does add extra hassle. For sure. But if it gets you the TV you want for the right price, it's worth it.
Literally did the same thing, my tv hasn't seen the Internet since the day I bought it
Great tv quality.

If you never update firmware, this should continue to work. However, all it will take is one deal with an AT&T or Xfinity to allow LG TVs to connect to their open wifi / guest networks to have your offline tv suddenly sending data home to LG again. This problem will get worse before it gets better.
That is true. If they get that deal with ATT or whomever then I suppose my countermeasures won't be perfect. I actually only connected mine via Ethernet. I don't remember if I did, or if it's possible, to disable wifi for the TV itself.

Anyway I agree with your larger point: it will get better before it gets worse.

For the record, there is a physical on/off switch for the microphone on the set.

No Samsung and all of the other brands do NOT push things as far as LG does. LG doesn't respect your commands to turn off the wifi, not send data, etc. The other brands (so far) do respect your choices - if you take the time to go into the system and disable everything. LG will continue to record your conversations and - the minute it happens to obtain a connection - it will send that data. LG continues to try and connect to WIFI networks, even after you turn wifi off. LG is INSANE and way over the line. And, LG is the same company that (to my memory) was hit with a huge fine for this sort of stuff 5-10 years ago...
