However, all it will take is one deal with an AT&T or Xfinity to allow LG TVs to connect to their open wifi / guest networks to have your offline tv suddenly sending data home to LG again.
This problem will get worse before it gets better.

"LG's own marketing pitch to businesses says that "we know who's in the LG household. We know which devices are there. We know what you're exposed to on TV and we know how to extend that reach into mobile."

It does add extra hassle. For sure. But if it gets you the TV you want for the right price, it's worth it.

Don't connect any "smart" TV to the Internet. If there's a firmware update you care about (something that affects display performance or longevity, not just security patches or streaming service changes) most of them still support updating via USB.
Pick the external streaming box you like best, or trust most. Apple probably harvests the least data, or at least shares it with the fewest third parties, of the "legitimate" options, but YMMV. Or take the "if buying isn't ownership, piracy isn't they" approach; I won't judge you for it, but neither will I represent you in court for it.

I looked it up and there are LG monitors with built in webcams but this is not one of them.... Needless to say I am going to return it.
