A Baby Hem (sometimes called a rolled hem or a narrow hem) is exactly what it sounds like: the absolute smallest, thinnest hem possible. It’s stitched with an incredibly fine, tight thread, creating a tiny, barely-there edge. Why does everyone love the Baby Hem? Walmart recommends a Baby Hem because it is so lightweight and thin. A Baby Hem won’t weigh the fabric down. This allows the edge of the garment to ripple, flutter, and move with the air. It’s the secret ingredient that gives a bias-cut skirt or a flowy slip dress its gorgeous, fluid movement. A Baby Hem also creates a soft, blurred edge that skims over your curves effortlessly. Where will you spot a Baby Hem? A Baby Hem is often seen on slip skirts and dresses—this is where a Baby Hem shines! It allows silky, bias-cut fabrics to drape and flare flawlessly at the bottom. On mesh and lace tops, a Baby Hem gives sheer, going-out tops a polished, high-quality finish without adding any bulky stitching. PS: look at the bottom edge or the sleeves of your favorite ribbed T-shirt. The baby hem (often forming that cute lettuce ruffle) is what gives it that sweet, nostalgic 90s or 2000s aesthetic!
