The magnet on this is great. It will scuff up your drywall so use a cloth under the wheels to keep your surfaces clean. Try to use a nice fishing line or something on the weight. I sometimes just fish fish sticks and the wheeler end vs the weight it comes with. Ran plenty of speaker, ether and electric with this.
I kinda always find myself using the fish sticks tho.
How long is it going to take you to design, print, and assemble your DIY version? That might make sense for a homeowner who likes (and has the time) to tinker, but if someone doesn't have that kind of time or is getting paid to do electrical work, buying the proven and trusted Klein tool is the way to go.

If I'm understanding this product correctly, I have N52 magnets and a 3D printer that can print a more functional version of this (360-degree rotation, probably even multi-directional wheels) for a fraction of the sale price, forget the MSRP. Should I be trying to design a better version of this for half the sale price or is there some hidden engineering I'm missing? I can't tell if there's actually a market for this or if is this just an impulse buy for people who make so much money they don't even blink at an expenditure like this. lol
For sure. I think I paid $20 for this. You're paying for the premium name.

Does it still work with insulation?

Most premium products add SOMETHING. I was hoping someone would tell me what it is, but all I got was Reddit™-tier downvotes.
I appreciate you asking the question, because i am in the same boat with a 3d printer and CAD skills to DIY this. I would pay the premium for this product if there was a good reason to though!
Amazon reviews seem to say it does well with insulation but i guess it just depends on what's in the walls.
Seems like this would be good if you dont have attic access, like in multi story building, or just tight on space and cant get a rod in. Otherwise i feel like a fiberglass glow rod just works better in most instances.

Watched the video. Concerned by the worker wearing a breathing mask while working by himself in an attic with nobody else around . Is this a toxic tool?
Not the tool, but the insulation, wall board, or paint could be unhealthy to breathe.
