I have both but W+ on my name and Sams+ in SO's name, so can't link them for refund 😂
Edit: just linked both accounts from W+ app. All it asked was Sam's Club login/pwd and issued refund for prorated W+ membership. I had used Amex offer for W+, so Amex may take back the credit but I'll still get some back. So that's a win.
It does remove the annual dance of making a new account which isn't worthless, but I'm not sure it's that amazing of a slickdeal. Great for set it and forget it folks though.
Edit: reading it again, it seems like the play is to make WM+ your "main" by adding on Sam's for $22, then hope that you can still get the occasional $49.99 base renewal offer when canceling. It sounds like if you link existing accounts for both then Sam's becomes your main at $120/year, and I haven't personally seen discounted renewals when canceling with Sam's.

This bundle ties Walmart+ and Sam's Club Plus into one annual membership, with account linking unlocking the other service and often triggering a prorated Walmart+ refund. The strongest upside is convenience and overlap, since Walmart+ shipping, Sam's Club member pricing, curbside pickup, fuel savings, and warehouse perks can all sit under one plan. Linking usually works through the Walmart or Sam's app, though the exact charge depends on current renewal timing and existing discounts. The main catch is that pricing math can be inconsistent, and some discounted Walmart+ or Amex setups may not carry over cleanly. A practical option if you want both memberships under one roof.
Linking Walmart+ and Sam's Club Plus accounts can trigger a prorated Walmart+ refund after activation.
Existing Sam's Club Plus members can activate Walmart+ through the Sam's app pop-up without paying extra.
Some upgrades show prorated timing and refunds that reduce the effective first-year cost.
Walmart+ benefits can be included with Sam's Club Plus once accounts are linked, and the setup can complete instantly.
Account linking can fail or misapply benefits when emails, account status, or eligibility do not match correctly.
Upgrade pricing shown as "as little as $22" can display higher checkout charges like $48, $53.11, or $95.
Linking can interfere with American Express statement credits for Walmart+ when the benefit is tied to monthly reimbursement mechanics.
Walmart+ delivery and shipping benefits may still require minimum order spend, such as $35 for delivery and $50+ for free shipping via Sam's Club Plus.

I tried linking the two off the announcement page in OP and it wanted to charge me $120/year. So the deal isn't really gonna work for Amex Platinum members, since the WM+ offer is for monthly payment, not annual payment. Too bad, woulda been a nice side perk to get a sams club membership for only an extra $22 a year.
I'm in a rural area, so other memberships like Target 360 and Kroger Boost are basically worthless. And Costco is way too far away to make it a regular trip. I've gotten my money's worth out of both Walmart and Sam's Club Plus memberships, but I did sign up for AARP a while back to get discounted Walmart+. But hey, I'll take free!
