These used to have all kinds of noise / clicking problems and abnormal shutdowns.... one assumes fixed by now?

Price is good for a reputable brand at 1000w

The 2025 model here is the ATX 3.1 version. Were the shutdown reports on the older one, or this revision too?

B rating on SPL's PSU Tier List with the note:

650W version has 300W 12V-2x6 cable. Poor 3.3V transient response. All use Hong Hua rifle-bearing fans. Y-shaped fan grille perforations.

The issues were with older revisions.

I just ordered from Best Buy and it automatically added the Thermalprotect PCIe cable to my cart.

Good deal!

I purchased the thermal protect cable along with the MSI A1000PLS which has a pin monitoring to protect my MSRP 5090 that is now like 3X the price I bought it and I can't find much information on how much protection the thermal protect cable provides to stop against melting but it is a bit higher quality-built cable than the ones that usually come with the power supply. The best buy one seems like a solid deal since the cable is $24 on its own but the PSU at $105 without the cable is okay deal not that special especially if you can wait till black friday.

Just a heads up, these do not have a -12v rail so check your system first.

What? Almost all systems use a 12v rail for CPU and GPU power?

+12v is used for CPU and GPU. -12v is for legacy and prob won't affect you

Since the PSU already comes with a 600W 12V-2x6 Cable, and there's only one connector, what is the advantage of the extra free one at Best Buy? Maybe for future PSUs? But it's generally not good to mix cables from different PSUs.

Also, you can save a bit on Amazon by buying used from resale, but the odds are good that you won't get all the cables. Amazon's inspectors have no idea what is supposed to be in the box. I've bought three of these from them, and none of them came with all the cables. And none of them were actually the new version, with the ATX 3.1 and 12v connector. At this price, it's cheap enough new to not make the gamble on used worth the savings.

Also, note that this is a clearance price at Best Buy, that Amazon is matching. It may not stay at this price at Amazon once BB sells out of their remaining stock. Basically, this is a new PSU for the price of a used one (likely missing cables.)

Note that, if you want to save more, and don't mind going with a manufacturer refurbished PSU, Best Buy has this listed shipped from from Corsair for $80.86. From Corsair, (unlike Amazon resale) it should come with all the cables!
You can pair this with the recent $5 coupon promotion for setting up a BB gaming profile in your account that was posted here to bring it down to $75.
