This propane weed burner is a simple, low cost tool for torching weeds and other small growth, with a piezo igniter that lights easily and a flame strong enough for patio cleanup, cobwebs, and even lighting a ground level fire pit or barbecue. It works best on dry, broad leaf weeds and can kill plants by briefly heating the base rather than burning everything down. Green, stubborn, or taller weeds may take repeat passes and use a lot of propane, so fire safety matters and the flame can be hard to judge in daylight.

Common Questions (5)

  • It works better on broad-leaf weeds, wild violets, dandelions, and clovers, but some tougher or taller weeds may need multiple sessions or may resist it. Dry weeds are easier to kill than green ones, which can take more propane and time.

  • It can be used to burn cobwebs indoors and to light a ground-level BBQ or fire pit. It is also useful for chemical-free weed control without digging up roots.

  • It lights fine and burns well for patio weeds and growth, and it is described as solid for the price. It can work best when used on the base of the plant rather than trying to incinerate the whole weed.

  • It produces a lot of heat, so a water bucket nearby is a sensible precaution and the flame is easier to judge at dusk or after dark. It is useful for weed control, but the visible flame can be more dangerous than it looks in daylight.

  • The igniter is a simple piezoelectric clicker that works well: open the fuel knob, then click to spark. It can also be lit with an external flame source if needed.

I bought a similar weed torch from Amazon this summer and used it in my garden.
Mine was butane, not propane, but it worked surprisingly well and I had a heck of a time!
My neighbors all borrowed it our wives all thought we were going to blow our hands off.
We loved it...can't wait for next summer.
Anyways, if you have weeds that you want to burn off, yes, this seems to be a very good solution.
Probably need to watch out for fire.
The amount of heat generated is pretty high.
I had a water bucket and beer nearby and sprayed the ground just in case.

I know yours isn't the same as this one, but how was the igniter on it? I kind expect it to be junk, and on an extended arm it might not be easy to use a manual one.

I purchased a similar torch - read the fine print - this is best for broad-leaf weeds becasue it dries them out - not so good on others.
Sure, it is fun to play with fire, but I am not convinced that it is effective!

The igniter is just a simple piezoelectric clicker and works well.
Turn the knob to release a bit of butane (or propane) and then click the igniter switch to produce a spark.
You can always light with an external flame source, too.

I agree. I run the torch several times. Most weeds just come right back in a few weeks.

I have something similar. Not good for weeda unless they are dry. If green even smaller ones. It takes long time to burn it down to the roots to really kill it. This using a lot of propane. Yes it is fun but long time.

This is good or lighting up bbq or fire pit that is on ground level.
