Is this Argentina beef? Safeway has a deal $4.99 on mystery beef this week too.

I'm worried about this as well. I suppose if you don't see a country of origin, it's probably best to assume it is the mystery meat from Argentina.

Canadian lean beef trimmings is what was in circulation over the last 10 years until the new tariffs this year. Additionally the 2001 ban on Argentinian beef was imposed after Foot and mouth disease (virus) was found in the supply, after Argentina started vaccinated their cows against it the meat was slowly reintroduced, yet restricted by a strict USA tariff, until now. Even China passed on importing this current meat they are selling. LOL no thanks

Community Reviews

Amazon Grocery ground beef is a convenient same day option for chili, burgers, and other basics, with a deal price around $2.99 per pound in some areas. The meat has a 4.7 rating with over 27,000 reviews, USDA inspection, and past orders were described as matching grocery store and Costco quality and flavor. Availability and pricing vary by warehouse and account, with some pages showing a coupon or the deal price and others showing $7 per pound or unavailable. Shipping and the $25 minimum can push the effective cost higher, and the country of origin is not clearly shown.

I was questioning you saying China is currently rejecting "this meat". China rejected a batch of meat back in March from a particular beef plant. They are not currently rejecting beef from Argentina as you stated. That's all I was trying to clarify from you...which meat?

Like I already said, China did refuse to buy Argentina meat and they could still be rejecting certain shipments..The US media will air what their owners want them to report. If 50,000 pounds of meat was rejected , then I'm sure it wasn't an isolated issue. No need to respond.

I'm just sharing info, you can buy whatever you want to buy.. But due to a lack of mandatory country-of-origin-labeling (COOL) in the US it doesn't need to be on the packaging, so for transparency purposes better quality meat distributors put the origins of their products on their labels.
We could laugh all day about how over-regulated the EU is, but there are quite a few regulations that should be introduced here as well.

It's not llama meat, it's beef, CHINA rejected. China doesn't give af about food safety, no way I would order this. Also I'm off grocery store or fast food/restaurant red meat for the next few months.
if they rejected the beef wouldn't that insinuate that they do care about food safety? point still taken though, I wouldnt eat any mysteriously cheap priced beef. at least not for the next few months.

USDA doesn't require companies to disclose country of origin. That said, plenty of countries outside the US that have good beef...and plenty in the US with bad beef.

That's how all meat is shipped to grocery stores. I was a butcher for 10 years. Hamburger comes in those 10lb chubs you see at sams and costco and goes through the grinder, sometimes with the trimmings. All the muscles are shipped in vacuum sealed bags too and the cutter cuts them into the different cuts. Even some specialty meat markets near you get their meat from the same place as grocery stores. Unless they butcher swinging beef there at the shop.
