My biggest frustration with Samsung watches is how much they lock features behind requiring Samsung phones.

On any non-Samsung Android phone, you can't use (via Google)...
  • ECG: Requires the proprietary Samsung Health Monitor app, which is restricted to Galaxy phones.
  • Blood Pressure Monitoring: Also locked behind the Samsung Health Monitor ecosystem.
  • Sleep Apnea Detection & Vitals Tracking: Advanced diagnostic and regulatory-cleared health metrics do not sync or function properly without a Samsung device.
  • Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications: Automated background rhythm alerts are unavailable
  • Samsung Pay / Tap to Pay: NFC payments through Samsung's wallet service require a Samsung phone.
  • Alarms & Reminders Sync: You cannot automatically sync alarms or native reminder lists between a non-Samsung phone and the watch.
  • Modes and Routines Sync: "Do Not Disturb" and focus mode states do not mirror back and forth automatically.
  • Camera Controller: The remote camera shutter app for your phone only works with compatible Galaxy devices.
  • Connected Device Diagnostics: Hardware checks via the Samsung Members app are exclusive to Samsung phones

I'm getting $120 with trade-in of a watch 7; although I'm not sure there's a meaningful gain in features going from the 7 to the 9.

I'd only do this if this was less than $100. It's showing $83 for me after selecting watch 7 for trade in.

I see the price on the page but when I get to the cart its still the 300ish dollars and I made sure to add the free band and al that. What else am I missing?

Yes, it's an ecosystem lockin. Pixel watches are better in that regard.

what would happen if shit hits the fan because samsung allowed non-samsung products to run those things? $4 ECG checker blows up when someone uses it on a samsung phone cuz someone found it on slickdeals. samsung is being smart.
