Flowtron's outdoor zapper is built for long term use and easy upkeep, with reports of sturdy U.S. made construction, UL certification, and years of reliable operation. The updated grid design, replaceable bulb and starter, and simple cleaning with a brush or air duster add to its appeal, and the timer can be handled with a plug in timer or smart plug. The main tradeoff is that it zaps many non target insects and can be loud, while mosquito control itself is questioned by some. It is a practical pick if you want a durable electric zapper and can live with the collateral catch.

  • The zapper can run on a timer via a smart plug for evening-only operation.

  • The unit can provide long-term operation with periodic bulb replacement and annual cleaning.

  • The electric grid design reportedly improves over older Flowtron models for better performance.

  • The CO2 cartridges are intended to pair with the UV light to attract a wider variety of insects.

  • The zapper can kill many non-target nocturnal insects, including beneficial species.

  • The device may be borderline ineffective at reducing biting mosquitoes compared with alternatives like mosquito buckets.

  • The starter component may be a common failure point, requiring replacement to restore function.

  • The unit can be very loud during operation, which may limit where it is tolerable.

This will break on you in one year but it's not the bulb - it's the starter- remove the top, replace the burner starter with a $2 starter from HD or Lowes and it will last forever
Have you even owned this exact model? Maybe, you had a bad apple one? a good majority of us commenting on here saying we've had ours for years, genuinely mean we've had ours for years and never had to replace the starter. Like I said, maybe if you do own one, you got a bad apple?! Good day!

These "work" but are borderline useless for killing the bugs that bite you. This is a fact, supported by actual evidence. Anyone claiming otherwise is either lying or a sucker for the placebo of some dead bugs.

A mosquito bucket is significantly more effective and cheaper.

Does it work as mentioned?
No this are useless. Mosquitos aren't attracted to light. A simple Google search "bug zapper site:edu:". Will pull up lots of studies saying they do more harm and actually attract more bugs to you.

This is a fantastic deal. I actually have 2 of these and they are insect murder machines (mosquitos, flys, moths, grasshoppers, june bugs, spiders, gnatts, and more). I change the bulb at least once per year to maintain effectiveness, but the housing is sturdy. I have not had any issues with it. To clean it, a strong air duster in combination with a brush usually does the trick. It doesn't have a timer on it, so I just put it on a smart plug to have it automatically turn on and off at certain times of the day.
Use a mask when air dusting. Let's not start covid27.

Not junk. I've had mine 9 years, works flawless. Underwriters Laboratory certified, made in USA. I use mine in the garage and have a bucket under to catch the deads. The problem is that it kills everything, so if you're targeting mosquitos you're also killing fireflies, butterflies, dragonflies, moths, and other nocturnal insects.
Problem? What problem? I don't see a single problem here.

So, you're afraid of bugs then. That's why you have no problem randomly killing anything that flies.

No, that's nonsense. They don't have to fly. No discrimination here.
