Flowtron's outdoor zapper is built for long term use and easy upkeep, with reports of sturdy U.S. made construction, UL certification, and years of reliable operation. The updated grid design, replaceable bulb and starter, and simple cleaning with a brush or air duster add to its appeal, and the timer can be handled with a plug in timer or smart plug. The main tradeoff is that it zaps many non target insects and can be loud, while mosquito control itself is questioned by some. It is a practical pick if you want a durable electric zapper and can live with the collateral catch.

Yeah. We have ours on a timer so it's only on in the time when we are usually out in the evening.

Not junk. I've had mine 9 years, works flawless. Underwriters Laboratory certified, made in USA.
I use mine in the garage and have a bucket under to catch the deads. The problem is that it kills everything, so if you're targeting mosquitos you're also killing fireflies, butterflies, dragonflies, moths, and other nocturnal insects.

You might as well pray away the mosquitoes, it will have the same effectiveness.

This will break on you in one year but it's not the bulb - it's the starter- remove the top, replace the burner starter with a $2 starter from HD or Lowes and it will last forever

This is a fantastic deal. I actually have 2 of these and they are insect murder machines (mosquitos, flys, moths, grasshoppers, june bugs, spiders, gnatts, and more). I change the bulb at least once per year to maintain effectiveness, but the housing is sturdy. I have not had any issues with it. To clean it, a strong air duster in combination with a brush usually does the trick.

It doesn't have a timer on it, so I just put it on a smart plug to have it automatically turn on and off at certain times of the day.

May be a dumb question... do people put these closer to your house so bugs go to it and die... But more bugs are around or do you put it further from your house so hopefully the bugs stay away and die

I have used them in people's homes, commercial buildings and churches during those unusual massive fly hatches. Turn room lights off. That is the best use for these. Since these are open bottom, best to have a 5 gallon bucket of water below when some are just stunned, they all drown. Or just put on a steel plate or piece of plywood. Vacuum daily.

I bought the Black & Decker version April 2025 for $13.78, and it works great! I was skeptical because of the mixed reviews, but given the low price, I decided to give it a try. It turned out to be well worth it!

.2 % of all the dead insects are mosquitoes. Bug zappers don't attract mosquitoes. The little c02 cartridge is a gimmick and might draw in a few challenged mosquitoes at most.
