Arlo Essential Indoor HD is a compact indoor security camera aimed at motion alerts and phone notifications, with automated privacy shielding and two way audio. The app supports live view and motion alerts, and the system can be useful for keeping tabs on multiple properties. The main drawback is the subscription model, since recording and smart detection require Arlo Secure, and cancellation is described as difficult. Longtime praise for battery life and reliability is outweighed by complaints that the company has heavily restricted older customers, making it a cautious pick if you want subscription free security.

no .. total trash.. I wouldnt get this garbage if it came free with a 20 dollar bill.. The headache that would ensue afterwards with this corrupt company would be far greater than the free 20 dollars.. Had to file a case with my credit card company to get them to cancel subscription after many failed attempts of them refusing to do so..

Just wanted to say that I used to love Arlo products when they first hit the scene and had a number of camera systems at home and office, but a few years ago the company switched to a forced subscription model that's overpriced and then gimped anyone that didn't subscribe. The few exceptions to this are older models that Arlo has EOLed which may continue to work.... until Arlo decides to just turn them off. Strongly recommend avoiding this company.

Arlo is good if you need alerts to come into your phone for security reasons, I have many arlos in many properties and I put it on the floor and when someone walks in, it alerts me. I pay like 224$ a year for the subscription so for people who have many many properties and need a ton of cheap cameras and that 224$ a year isn't a big deal (like for me), it's a good security camera system.

I also pay for nest as well but it's not as good for alerting if there is motion but the thumbnail preview is nice. Arlo makes a noise when it detects motion which is GREAT for security. I have a couple in one room and when someone walks by it sends audible notifications to my phone at once and so I know which cam it is.

If anyone knows of a camera system better than arlo for notifying you for security please let me know.

EDIT: I should further clarify the system I use. I pay for nest and I have multiple nest cameras all over the place, sometimes it sends me thumbnail notifications when it detects motion, I have arlo as the main notifier if someone goes where they shouldn't be going, I also have about 40 reolink cameras that are recording 24/7. So I use all three systems at the same time.

The app is free for live view and motion alerts; recording and smart detection need Arlo Secure. Ad-free I can't verify.

100%. 9 years ago I bought an arlo system and loved it so much i bought another for a rental property just as a perk for tenants. Batteries lasted 6 years, replaced them, kept loving them, now arlo has completely handicapped existing customers. Unethical and i'll never buy an arlo product again.

Arlo is a corrupt, unethical company. Run far away.
