The monitor has two usb-c inputs. It doesn't have its own battery, so your device will give it power if you just use a single cable. But if you plug your phone into one of the monitor's usb-c ports, and a usb charger into the other, then it will continue to work as a display for the phone while also sending power to actively charge the phone.

I picked one of these up a few weeks ago. Overall pretty good based on my use. Screen is decent for what it is. I have been using mine hooked up from my Mini PC. The USB C cable both powers and provided the video. The entire cover comes off easily as it's attached via small magnets. The speakers are not very good, but they are only 1 watt each so that's kind of expected. Overall great deal for $50 and under.

No internal battery; it's USB-C powered, so the Pixel would supply the power. One owner above ran both on one cable.

Not bright enough in a well lit room. The cover doubles as a stand but it's not very good.

Stupid question... do these things have their own internal battery or does it draw from the USB C port of the device plugged in? I'm thinking of using this for pixel desktop mode with a bluetooth keyboard, but I can't figure out if this will work. Or should I just get a Nexdock 6, for example?

Echoing the same sentiments. Bought it during the last sale and it works as advertised. If you need a second monitor that is portable, getting this is a no brainer. Is it 4k Ultra HDR Dolby Vision OLED, nope. But for $50, its a steal.

Adding to this, but I also tried a plug-in adapter with a cord and it didn't want to stay on above 3 secs, removing the adapter and using straight usb cord to usb 4-port plug-in style hub worked just fine and it stays on. Could be a power/output variable at play there but I wouldn't run a plugin adapter with this (the kind that plugs into the wall with the usb-port built-in that you just a normal charging cable into etc).

Bought a refurb T15 for Samsung Dex and am happy with it for the price. The speakers suck, but the sound from my phone is good enough.

Important: Cable must be usb c 3.2 or better for video over usb C. Mine came with one. my phone powers the monitor fine with the correct cable. The monitor shuts off after a few seconds with the wrong one. Only very expensive hubs can handle video over usb c. A charger can be plugged into the other usb c port on the monitor and it will charge the phone. That with Bluetooth keyboard/mouse is the simplest setup.

The other option is a cheap HDMI hub with power input, but the wiring isn't as clean and starts to feel like like a hassle for a portable setup. I was going to do a diy lapdock, but refurbished lapdocks on ebay don't cost much more than the pile of components needed to build one.

<$70 portable monitors are posted on SD very frequently, but they come with pretty painful resolution and brightness compromises.

If you spend $120-$150 on a 14-16" 2K monitor you end up with something that's much more usable.

Examples:
Uperfect 16" / 2k / 400 nit - $136 - https://www.amazon.com/UPERFECT-P...0BHNLZCNF/
Azropa 16" / 2k / 350 nit - $124 - https://www.amazon.com/ARZOPA-Por...0CH9XR3G4/

Both these brands sound generic but they've both been making excellent screens for a while now.
