I have two of these- they are great quality- just be sure they meet your specs about cold temp performance.

The listing doesn't give a low-temp rating; what's the coldest you've run them at?

Installed a unit that looks almost identical to this several weeks back (Atomi 12K from Costco). Tempted to grab this because I'm thinking I'm going to add a second one and 'delete' my old dinosaur central AC. One 12K window unit on my uppermost level was able to keep it reasonable in my house all by itself over the last several summers.

It's nice having the heat pump on these, too. I don't really intend to use it in the depths of winter (when their efficiency suffers), but when it's mild out, I'm pretty sure it's cheaper to run than my gas furnace. The Atomi settles in around 300-500W for low-demand heating, when the furnace blowers (exhaust & circulation combined) consume ~500W. Plus, I can run the heat pump on my small solar setup for free heat on mild, sunny days.

Good stuff. I'm a big fan of mini splits now. They're significantly more efficient than your average whole-house AC, significantly less expensive to buy, and much simpler installation. I probably wouldn't try a central AC, but mini splits are certainly DIY-able if you don't want to pay someone an extortionate rate to do it for you (just make sure you follow the proper process e.g. permitting/inspection). Their only drawback is the lack of centralized circulation - which you can get anyway by just running the fan occasionally on a ducted furnace if you have one.

I also bought the Atomi for $699. And then since I bought all the installation tools, bought this Costway, because at that point the Atomi went back to $999.

The Atomi is definitely a better build quality, so that along with Costco forever return policy is probably worth 200 bucks more when it goes back on sale again. But not worth double the price like it is now.

One thing that I did like better with the Costway is that the refrigerant hoses are about 2 foot longer. You can go about a 16 foot run, compared to about a 14 foot run. The Atomi hoses are kind of on the short side compared to this Costway model that has pretty generous refrigerant hoses.

One of my biggest complaints about the Atomi is that the power cord in the lineset was like 18" too short. I had to lengthen it so it could be bundled with the refrigerant lines as they made the curve to run horizontal over to the condenser unit. I was pretty angry about having to do that.
