Ridgid's new 18V 8.0Ah EX Max Output batteries are the tabless version, marked with the orange P in EXP, unlike the older 8Ah EXP pack with the gray P and 21700 cells. The tabless design is meant to improve power delivery, and the flat positive and negative sides are a visible change. The price works out to about $10 per amp hour, which lines up well against comparable 8.0Ah packs. Standalone batteries now qualify for lifetime service agreement coverage, even without a charger or tool, making this a strong high capacity option for heavy draw tools.
Cordless tool owners draining 6Ah packs quickly, because the 8Ah capacity should stretch runtime on vacuums and lights that burn through smaller batteries fast.
Ridgid users who want standalone batteries with lifetime coverage, because standalone batteries now qualify for LSA even without a charger or another tool.
Ridgid battery buyers wanting higher power delivery, because the tabless design uses more connections for better output than batteries that rely on two tabs.
Yes, standalone Ridgid batteries now qualify for LSA even without a charger or another tool. The lifetime coverage can still depend on how the battery was sold, but the current rule is that batteries-only purchases are eligible.
Yes. This newly released 8.0Ah EX battery is the tabless version, marked with the orange "P" in EXP. The older 8Ah EXP pack had a gray "P" and was powered by 21700 cells instead.
At the same draw, an 8.0Ah battery should run about one-third longer than a 6.0Ah battery. For example, a tool that lasts about 15 minutes on 6.0Ah would be expected to run around 20 minutes on 8.0Ah.
Tabless batteries use more connections for better power output instead of sending power through just two tabs. The pack also has flat positive and negative sides rather than a protrusion on one side.
What's different between this and the previous 8ah exp battery? Aren't they both tabless?
No. This is just released yesterday. Look at the orange "P" in EXP. The only previous tabless battery Ridgid offered was the 4AH tabless with the orange "P" in EXP. The previous 8ah EXP was not tabless

I just looked and you're right! The 2pk 8ah exp battery pack (AC840080P) I have has gray P and says "powered by 21700 cells"
Good price. Prior, I think Ridgid didn't offer LSA for batteries-only purchase (had to be a kit, or at least a charger with it). Is that still the case, meaning no LSA with this deal?

website says lifetime. I have lifetime on all my batteries but maybe they came in a kit

It changed a couple years ago. The standalone batteries now qualify, even if it doesnt come with a charger or another tool
I'm looking forward to trying on my portable vac. Love the vac, but only lasts 15min with 6.0. As a comparison, this price is the same as on dewalt 8.0 and cheaper that one forge 8.0
Actually somewhat close to $10/ah for 21700 cells. Seems like a solid deal. The shop vacs and lights seem to go through the 6ah's so fast. I was waiting for 8's at $10/ah but this seems like the way to go.
Essentially, supposed to be more connections for better power output, rather than the power having to be supplied through just two tabs like in the other batteries
Had to speak with multiple associates to find these as there wasn't a place on the shelf, or in the battery lockdown cage. They checked inventory and it supposedly wasn't supposed to be live yet. Found one associate that went to overstock up top and opened the box for me. Great deal for 8.0ah batteries for Ridgid.

The 8.0Ah upgrade can extend runtime from about 15 minutes on a 6.0Ah battery to roughly 20 minutes at the same draw.
The batteries are reportedly powered by 21700 cells, which supports the tabless variant distinction for this 8Ah pack.
Tabless construction uses more internal connections to support higher power output than two-tab designs.
In-store pickup can still work when inventory is hard to find on shelves, since staff may pull stock from overstock and open the box.
Lifetime coverage may depend on whether the batteries came in a kit, even though the website mentions lifetime.
Tabless labeling can be confusing because the previous 8Ah EXP pack was not tabless, so checking the orange 'P' versus gray 'P' matters.
LSA eligibility for batteries-only purchases may be unclear, since earlier Ridgid policies reportedly required a kit or at least a charger.
Runtime expectations depend on the tool's draw, since a portable vac reportedly runs only about 15 minutes on a 6.0Ah battery.
