Marshall's bluetooth products are all originally from the Swedish company Zound, which eventually purchased the company in cash and left the Marshall family with a 24% stake, as the largest shareholder. In 2023 Chinese firm HongShan Capital acquired Marshall and Zound, with the Marshall family retaining the same or similar stake in the company.
I first fell in love with Marshall with my high-school amp I used to play metal. Eventually I would buy a whole bunch of Marshall BT speakers -- Stanmores and a Woburn -- believing the claims like other people said -- they are overpriced speakers that you purchase for the look. Over time, this viewpoint completely lost meaning to me. To this day I am constantly disappointed in my Sonos soundbars and speakers which simply do not play rock music or podcasts half as good as a Woburn Stanmore or Woburn. I constantly feel the need to adjust my Sonos equilization, whereas that was sessentially non-existent with either Marshall models. Again, I understand these are Zound Industries products in a Marshall styling package, and potentially very limited to anything trulyMarshall, but I was really impressed with them.
Because of their entry into the bluetooth headphone market, I've always been skeptical that they might not be as good as bigger brands and likely overpriced because of the name and styling. But now a lot of noname Chinese brands make quite comparable earbuds at fractions of the price. Anyone have any input on these buds or their others? And I wonder how much China was behind Zound in the first place.
