I've had this for a couple years. Surprisingly not bad for the price. I like it and splitting it out into separate left/rights works well

They literally call anything that makes any kind of sound whatsoever a "subwoofer" these days...

Does it require an additional amplifier to setup these speakers? Can someone please explain

It looks like this is the Apollo s40 model instead of the s40 pro. The original S40 launched with Bluetooth 5.0. The Pro lists Bluetooth 5.3. The Pro listings advertise an upgraded DSP chip and CEC sync. CEC gives one-click power and volume control from the TV remote. The Pro is sold with the Ultimea app, which offers 121 EQ presets and 10-band tuning. The original S40 launched with physical EQ modes and a remote. One of the forums said that S40 units shipped after March 2025 got the same firmware and app support as the Pro. That is not confirmed by Ultimea though. If true, a newer S40 is essentially a Pro.
I see this has the 5.3 Bluetooth but I don't see anything about CEC or the app with the EQ settings.
It's still a deal at that price regardless of which model it is, just looking to see if anyone can confirm which one it is.
