This is a Home Depot Hack. So the standard best method for doing this without as much return abuse is:
Get the app, order the ITEM YOU WANT to a location near you, and the ITEM YOU DO NOT WANT to a second location. Pick up the item you want, then just cancel the pickup for the other item, or let it expire or whatever. No returns needed.
If you are not familiar with HD hacks feel free to ask.

They do not allow you to pick up from a different store anymore. You have to pick the same shipping method or store pick up for each item.
