My $89.99 Craftsman 1/2" torque wrench (previous version of this one purchased around 2024) broke after only 5 or 6 uses, and I always unscrew it and store it at 0 in it's case, never dropping it or using it to break bolts free. The internal pawl wouldn't engage and it just free spins where it won't start grabbing to turn the bolt no matter if I turn the one-way adjuster to clockwise or counterclockwise engagement. in 2025 I bought 2 Harbor Freight Pittsburg 1/2" torque wrenches on a Black Friday sale for $10/ea and they both work perfectly, and are actually slightly more accurate and consistent than the Craftsman one was the few times it actually worked which is really sad for Craftsman which used to be the only tool brand I'd buy for many years. I've used the Pittsburg ones about 10-12 times over the past year mostly for lug nuts but also for brake caliper bolts and frame bolts between 24 ft/lbs and 102 ft/lbs and it still works great. I also store it unscrewed to 0 and keep it in it's hard case. I'm not buying Craftsman anymore because this is now the 2nd tool of theirs that I spent a good amount of money on that has been defective.
