Costco's boneless USDA Choice ribeye is being seen as a strong steak deal at $14.99 per pound, especially compared with recent regular prices around $18.99 and higher delivery pricing. The cut is praised for being unusually low for ribeye and for Costco's overall meat quality, with some packages looking better than Prime when you compare them side by side. The main caution is to inspect the marbling and fat before buying, since some vacuum packs trim down to lean, disappointing steaks. A solid value if you find a well marbled package.
Steak buyers who want a lower-than-usual ribeye price, because this sale sits below recent regular Costco pricing and below what some stores charge for similar choice cuts.
People who prefer Costco's meat quality over chasing the absolute lowest price, because comparable ribeye deals elsewhere are often bone-in or less consistent.
Costco ribeye pricing reportedly is not competitive with Safeway or Albertsons when those stores run bone-in ribeye deals around $10 per pound or less.
Yes. Regular Costco pricing was reported at $18.99/lb in New York, and $14.99/lb is described as unusually low for Choice ribeye. It also undercuts a reported $16.99/lb vacuum-pack price and is below many typical grocery sale prices.
Yes. The fat cap and marbling can vary a lot between packages, and trimming can leave some packs with very little usable meat. Comparing packages within the same grade helps find the better lean-to-fat ratio.
Other stores can occasionally beat it: ribeye has been seen around $8.99/lb at Vons/Safeway and $10/lb or less at Safeway or Albertsons, usually bone-in. Costco's $14.99/lb is still competitive for boneless Choice, especially when those lower prices are unavailable.
The Costco app was already showing $14.99/lb, while DoorDash showed $16.68. That suggests the warehouse sale price is reflected in the app, but delivery pricing can be higher.
What's normal price? Costco app already showing $14.99 only.
Doordash>Costco is showing $16.68.

I got the whole vacuum package at 16.99/lb. Sliced/steak size maybe $3-5 more
I did this once, and trimmed maybe 3 lbs of fat. Beneath that fat was meh steaks. Very little marbling. At least when it's cut and packaged you can see if it's worth buying.
Not true.
I have not seen any cuts that were Select. Google says that it may be possible in some Business Center stores.
The same as at any grocer, you should compare individual packages of the same grade for finding your preferred package.
Now and then (not normally), I have seen Choice steaks look great, and once in a while, I have seen some Prime look not the best within class for my taste in their lean-to-fat ratio.
Just don't grab a package without checking others within the same grade.
I'm no meat-cut/price expert either. That's why I wondered what regular price was.
.
I used to pick up the Costco Bill Bailey Santa Maria or Carne Asada packs for as low as $9, or jam packed at $21. Not sure when they went crazy, but now the smallest Costco BB Carne Asada is like $40 for the same size.
Safeway or albertsons still occasionally has ribeye for $10/lb or less but with bone-in, but haven't seen it since early summer. Alternates with new york on sale, or if you're lucky sometimes porterhouse and t-bones at that price in the max packs. Costco is not competitive with meat prices unless you like their quality.
Isn't choice steak sometimes on sale at Vons/safway for like $8.99 lb?
That seems about right for Texas when we lived there a couple of years ago. I do know beef is much more expensive on the east coast and $12-15 lb is a typical sale price for choice at Food Lion, Walmart and Publix. Fresh Market usually has really great deals on better cuts but you have to watch the sale bills. TBH we rarely chase deals any more on proteins because they are all so expensive any more and look for expiring marked down packages in the store and plan our weekly menu accordingly...

The Prime Ribeye steaks at the Huntington Beach location is always worse than the regular Choice ones, with little marbling. It's been like that for years there.

Shoppers comparing individual ribeye packages in person, because marbling and fat trim vary enough that some cuts look much better than others.
People who prefer Costco's meat quality over chasing the absolute lowest price, because comparable ribeye deals elsewhere are often bone-in or less consistent.
Shoppers expecting every ribeye package to be well marbled, because some cuts can hide heavy fat trim and still turn out lean.
Deal hunters focused only on the cheapest ribeye per pound, because similar or lower prices can appear at other grocers.
People wanting a reliably premium prime ribeye, because the prime steaks at one location can look leaner than the choice steaks.
